jaapv Posted May 6, 2013 Share #21 Posted May 6, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looks like their is a patch:Why doesn’t my version of Photoshop or Lightroom support my camera? Very good lateral thinking: convert the files to .DNG with Adobe's DNG converter.

adan Posted May 6, 2013 Share #22 Posted May 6, 2013 Very good lateral thinking: convert the files to .DNG with Adobe's DNG converter. Yep - that's what I for with any recent camera. Since I have PSCS4 (now over 4 years old) and Adobe Camera Raw's newer updates (v. 6+) don't work with it. And since I don't otherwise need either a new computer or upgrade of PS. Fortunately the .DNG converter is: - upgraded for new cameras on the same schedule as Camera Raw itself - a free download Makes it easy to use Nikon D7100 files or D800 files (or D-Lux 6 files). And I prefer .dngs to native raw formats - no clutter of xmp. sidecar files
iedei Posted May 6, 2013 Share #23 Posted May 6, 2013 Syed You are out of order. If you have an old but working computer, with old but working software, to upgrade who whole kit to a current model would cost well more than the price of a D-Lux 6. Poking fun is uncalled for. sorry didn't mean in that way. I wrote Windows in my reply....not his system. Either way...apologies if that sounded offensive! dave.gt Posted May 7, 2013 Share #24 Posted May 7, 2013 Not a problem, Syed. I am delighted that there is a solution and I am absolutely delighted that Leica is so responsive. As soon as I can sell something (not much left), I may just pick up a D6 as I am finding that my documentary work in film is getting too expensive with developing and scanning 50 rolls per project. Thanks for the input...LUF rocks!
!Nomad64 Posted May 5, 2014 Share #25 Posted May 5, 2014 You must not have been paying attention. I cannot afford it or the new computer and other software upgrades!!! Why is it so difficult to find out if LR 3.6 will accept DNG files from the D-Lux 6? Anyone? Dave, afaik native RAW files from DL6/LX7 are RWL format and not DNG. If you have tried all Windows-centric solutions and none of them work, you may eventually want to give a try to Linux. It's not even necessary to install that. You get a live distro, possibly including digikam and/or GIMP with UFRAW plug-in and you try your workarounds. I know it might be intimidating as you'll have to learn how to operate it, but there are several advantages: - It's free or quite so. It'll actually cost you the price of a CD/DVD you'll want to burn your distro onto. - It'll sensibly rev up your older hardware (mine's more or less the same age as yours: I have an Athlon 64 X2 CPU, 'nuff said). - Viruses won't be bothering you anymore - Doesn't need periodic defrag/register cleaning etc - If you choose a popular distro (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, etc) free periodical upgrades are safely guaranteed. Hope this helps, Cheers, Bruno
Steveoc64 Posted July 31, 2014 Share #26 Posted July 31, 2014 I would like to reiterate what Bruno said above. At the end of the day, if you are relying on Lightroom and XP, then you are seriously between a rock and a hard place. You are stuck having to rely on 2 different third party companies (ie - Adobe and Microsoft) to do the right thing by you, and maintain compatibility with your choice of equipment ... the lovely Leica D-Lux 6. In both cases, Adobe and Microsoft would both prefer that you spent even more money with them and upgraded to their latest and greatest. They have zero interest in helping you avoid the upgrade problem. If you insist on hanging on to XP, then you have no choice but to slowly watch all of your applications become unworkable as time marches on. If you replace XP with Linux, then you have made a significant step forward to regaining your computer from the hands of these third party companies. Linux will work superbly well on old hardware, and the latest release of Darktable does a significantly good job of emulating light room operations. Leica D-Lux 6 raw files work straight out of the box, with no hunting around for extra upgrades. Bottom line - it works fine, and it costs zero. More importantly, going this way will permanently get you out of the perpetual planned obsolescence problem that is part of the whole Microsoft experience.
