Advertisement Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Leica M strap lugs unscrewing (merged). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest Posted May 27, 2013 Share #342 Posted May 27, 2013 So is my Nikon coolpix which is 12 years old . It is however unreparable if anything goes wrong and I doubt if batteries are still available but probably won't be in 8 years. The good news is that the jpegs it produces look pretty good on A4 prints.obviously not as good as the results from my M9 or even M8.2 but 95% of the population of the world could not tell the difference. marknorton Posted May 27, 2013 Share #343 Posted May 27, 2013 Well, it has been standard for a long time, seeing that my late 1980-ies M6 has the same shiny stuff. My 1992 M6 does not have, nor to any of my other 4 digital Ms, so I hardly think it is standard. Even if it were, the botched application does it no favours. Perhaps it needs the steady hand of a dentist...
jaapv Posted May 27, 2013 Share #344 Posted May 27, 2013 LOL. Maybe the mere knowledge it is your camera makes for shaking hands.
FMB Posted May 27, 2013 Share #345 Posted May 27, 2013 I sold my M8u. clean and new as the first day I bought it. It was a pitty but I needed money to buy the M (240). It is a gift and a very good machine to take a lot of fantastic pictures in a very long future, as my beloved M7 also sold. I was sad when I decided to clean my home of a lot of cameras I would not use for ever, some one will enjoy them, even if only touches and looks at them. That's life. Francisco. marknorton Posted May 28, 2013 Share #347 Posted May 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) In a strangely irrational sort of way, I'm actually reluctanct to try out my returned and paint-splattered M. I have lots to deal with at the moment and would prefer not to have to interact with Leica again at this point. There is a small possibility it may be fine and I'd rather remain ignorant until I can find the time than become disappointed now. Fot those of you who have their cameras back, are they working, especially the rangefinder?
Hookeye Posted May 28, 2013 Share #348 Posted May 28, 2013 Fot those of you who have their cameras back, are they working, especially the rangefinder? My M240 was away for 3 weeks for re-lugging before I finally got it back, complete with a signed "test certificate" and a personal letter from Mr Schopf saying they had given the camera and rangefinder a thorough check "in order to ensure the camera is flawless" etc.. Incredibly: The rangefinder was maladjusted with respect to vertical alignment, something I discovered immediately on putting my eye to it in order to take the first shot after it came back. What on earth are they smoking down in Solms

Fot those of you who have their cameras back, are they working, especially the rangefinder? Mine returned today after a weeks holiday in Solms ..... quite remarkably really (hats off to UPS) as the address was for a town 200 miles away ....... I have the obligatory over-large splodge on the rear roller travel adjuster and a miniscule dab on the front edge of the near adjuster screw ...... which looks more like it's there to alert Leica to tampering than anything useful. It will be the usual rapid dry stuff that should shift with acetone or similar .... I will try getting it off when I have some time to experiment....... ** Screw is pristine ..... but the fully tightened position for this camera is with the slot at 90 degrees to the body so it's easy to adjust ...... if it's parallel to the body it's a bu**er to shift without scuffing the slot edges.... Rangefinder is 100% ok. I asked them to check the vertical adjustment which I suspected was off but only really noticeable when using a 1.35x mag and now it's ok. Thankfully the 'save profile' facility works ok and now I am back to business as usual. Lugs look untouched (same scratces in the same places). I'm actually quite impressed with Leica ..... nil to grumble about so far..... ** update ..... Butanol which dissolves most things doesn't work....... not sure I'm keen on splashing cellulose thinners around in my M240 so I will leave well alone..... Fot those of you who have their cameras back, are they working, especially the rangefinder? Mark - just got mine back after 31 days away. The rangefinder is in alignment, the sensor is clean, and the lugs -- yes, the strap lugs -- are secure. So, sorry it went away, glad it came back, and quite satisfied with the work done. malsop Posted May 28, 2013 Share #351 Posted May 28, 2013 Repaired M arrived back this morning, 33 days after it was returned. Since the strap lugs on mine had not yet loosened there is no difference that I can detect. They did not fix the mangled RF calibration screw (noted with the returned M and on the Leica repair sheet) but the calibration was perfect when I sent it in and it is still perfect, I checked using a 70mm Summicron and the Lens Align target. These new Leica batteries don't seem to have much of a shelf life, 33 days and it was totally dead, no response from the M at all until it was recharged a bit! Leica Singapore claims of having some office renovation. Why should I bear their problem?
chris_tribble Posted May 29, 2013 Share #353 Posted May 29, 2013 Body #1 returned - Leica did a good job (7 days turn round). Body #2 going in this afternoon - hoping for it to be back at the end of next week. I think London must be closer to Solms than the State, Singapore, Australia etc... At last a benefit to make up for our dreadful weather
johnbuckley Posted May 29, 2013 Share #354 Posted May 29, 2013 Apparently, the delay in getting my camera back was it arrived at US Customs in the same shipment with a large number of new Ms, which all had to be cleared. So it took 15 days from the time the repair was completed to the time it arrived at my office. Still, happy so many Ms seem to be arriving at U.S. dealers. And, as much as I love my M9, using it for a month and now getting the M back confirmed how much we love the M's ergonomics, LCD screen, etc.
marknorton Posted May 29, 2013 Share #355 Posted May 29, 2013 Good to hear there are some good experiences of the camera recall. As for US customs, I believe the rate of duty is miniscule so it just seems to be more a bureaucratic exercise than revenue generator.
Jager Posted May 30, 2013 Share #356 Posted May 30, 2013 Received mine back today, 33 days after dropping it off with UPS. All seems well. The book and the letter were nice touches. And Carmen, in NJ - who quickly and efficiently got me set up for the return and answered my query a few days ago as to status - was nothing but a pleasure to work with. Still, all in all not Leica's finest moment. There may have been an urgency at Solms to get the actual work done, once onsite at the factory there. But the door-to-door process was clearly not as optimal as it might have been. No matter. Am deeply happy to have this remarkable camera back. Peter Branch Posted June 1, 2013 Share #357 Posted June 1, 2013 My M240 was collected by DHL from my home in Watford UK last Tuesday morning, 28th May. I have had an e-mail from UPS today to say it will be delivered back to my home address on Monday 3rd June. Six day turnaround door to door - I'm quite impressed. Rick Posted June 3, 2013 Share #360 Posted June 3, 2013 Hey Doug, I was reading this about buying a $3K camera with a fixed lens and in a couple of years I'd be throwing it in the trash, lens and all. Had me thinking that my RX1 might not have been a good buy. But, I got to thinking about it and realized that this little RX1 is going to be a great camera (technologically) for a looooong time. As long as it keeps working, this could be a semi-pocket PAS for many years. As you know by now, I love this little camera.
