johnloumiles Posted April 1, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted April 1, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was shooting on a sidewalk and a woman knocked into me, jarring the camera out of my hand and down to the sidewalk. Results of this short trip are: Lens will not lock into place, lens release has no spring to it ( stays depressed if pushed down ) and if you turn the power on the sound of what seems to be the shutter reloading after an exposure runs endlessly over and over and continues even after switching the camera off. Only removing the battery stops this awful death rattle ( it really is so depressing to listen to) . I should mention the shutter doesn't actually move itself and does not fire if you push the release. Â Obviously this is a service thing but I just sent it in a year ago to have the shutter replaced and I'm not sure I have another $800/4 month wait to spend on fixing this rapidly aging camera. Has anyone else experienced similar and remember the cost of repair? Or by another miracle did anyone fix it in their own? Â Thanks for any replies you may have

earleygallery Posted April 2, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted April 2, 2013 Bad luck. You need to send the camera into Leica asap. Seems like the jolt has caused a few issues and there may be others which you can't immediately see. Hopefully it's just a case of a bit of reassembly and no expensive parts need replacing. Ecar Posted April 2, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted April 2, 2013 Bad luck - I can feel the pain... Seems like a Solms job, I'm afraid. Â Reminder to self: think of that agonizing rattle and do not skip the use of the neckstrap next time you go on the street - these things do not happen only to others. Â Second reminder to self: check the strap lugs on a regular basis, to avoid this: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/278616-leica-m-strap-lugs-unscrewing.html
Jerren Posted April 10, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted April 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I hate the Leica neck strap but I still use it so this doesn't happen to me. Sorry it happened to you.
wda Posted April 14, 2013 Share #8 Â Posted April 14, 2013 It is no comfort to OP John, but I feel distinctly uncomfortable shooting without the camera secured to my body via a Leica strap. Just ingrained practice.
