wparsonsgisnet Posted April 5, 2007 Share #84 Posted April 5, 2007 Guy, is it safe to assume that you were using a 486 filter on your lens?

AlanJW Posted April 5, 2007 Share #88 Posted April 5, 2007 Is it too late to order? If not, I assume the price is $130 and if so, how do I pay for it? I live in the UK. Send Jim an email. See below. I'd buy one but I have neither the WATE nor any filters yet. here is a tease...Guy's lens with adapter and filter mounted. this is the first fully working prototype and is painted. Next week, black anodized versions, at least ten will be ready to ship. i will be responding to e-mails and other requests, e-mail is best. jm@milich.com this lens and adapter with filter is going to Guy for Monday. If I happen to need to see another lens for fitting tests next week...anyone in the NYC area? Attached Images
jlm Posted April 5, 2007 Author Share #89 Posted April 5, 2007 I'll be travelling umtil april 11 and will respond to e-mails then. orders paid through today have been shipped unless a filter glass was required, another shipment can go out on the 13th. Both domestic and international orders are ok jm@milich.com
sean_reid Posted April 11, 2007 Share #90 Posted April 11, 2007 status report: they are done and work well. Guy will have the first adapter on Monday, but there wasn't time to anodize that particular one. I expect to have the run of ten ready to ship, anodized, by thursday and be in production for the remaining run of 50 pcs. the final price will be $130, that will include the adapter redy for you to fit your own glass and retainer ring from a B+W 489 49mm filter. these adapters mount to the WATE exactly like the hood and even have a tiny screw as an index for the f-stop (presently, this index is on the hood.) the hood then mounts to the adapter exactly like it mounted to the lens. the adapter moves the hood forward about 5/16" (8mm). When the lens is set to 16mm, the inner surface of the filter glass is 1.5mm away from the lens surface. the adapter is machined from aluminum and black anodized. best way to get one is to e-mail me: jm@milich.com Way to go John! Cheers, Sean
Guest guy_mancuso Posted April 11, 2007 Share #91 Posted April 11, 2007 Just a quick settings off and settings on at 16mm with the adapter and leica 49mm. let you guys guess which one is which. wparsonsgisnet Posted April 11, 2007 Share #92 Posted April 11, 2007 Guy, you're making me positively itch for that lens. I already purchased a filter holder from JM and have received it and the 49mm 486 filter. Your pix show so much detail and classic-Leica-roundness [that would be my description of the character of Leica lenses]. I just haven't made a decision yet about the lens (or my 30% discount). It's SO hard for the rest of us who only purchased a single M8.
marknorton Posted April 11, 2007 Share #93 Posted April 11, 2007 Looks good, I have two filter holders on order from JM, one to put a B+W filter in, one to put a Leica filter in. Looking forward to 1.10...
sean_reid Posted April 11, 2007 Share #94 Posted April 11, 2007 by the way, next project will be a slim PC adapter that will also hold an external finder. Excellent. Cheers, Sean
Guest guy_mancuso Posted April 11, 2007 Share #95 Posted April 11, 2007 Well now it just makes the WATE a more desirable lens to have since the filter works with it and the adapter looks stunning on the lens it really takes nothing away for the physical look of the lens. Also i am finding this a very handy lens and feels like zoom to me and with a 30 percent off it really is hard to resist. I'm still probably going to get a 24 2.8 though but I'm nuts too, so don't go by me there. LOL
jlm Posted April 11, 2007 Author Share #96 Posted April 11, 2007 just got back from 5 days in paris...beautiful weather. Had the 15, 24 and 50. Guy: call me if you are looking for a 24. for my purposes, with the wate coming, the 28 cron would be better. looks like I have more adapters about ready to ship and will respond to e-mails tomorrow. also will doing a milling run on (your)LTM adapters, proviiding the six recesses. regarding the PC adapter: where would you like the PC connection to be? jm@milich.com
Guest guy_mancuso Posted April 11, 2007 Share #97 Posted April 11, 2007 I would think the best place John would be out the front side. If it is the back we maybe hitting our foreheads on it. Or if it was hinged so the electronics go in the shoe, finder on top than the hinged part has the PC that can lay in front or back whichever makes sense. But the Hinged idea may keep the top side thinner, just a thought. A L shape
gerasdoc Posted April 11, 2007 Share #98 Posted April 11, 2007 (off topic) I just purchased a WATE and I am trying to decide which finder to get. I am leaning toward the Leica 21/24/28. I know that it doesn't have framelines. Are there any other objections to it. I don't think I would be comfortable with Guy's solution of going with a 21 only to cover the 16mm focal length. I saw and handled the Leica Uiniversal Wide Angle; it's very nice. However, it's also bulky and expensive if you do not buy it as part of the WATE package (which was not available to me) Any thoughts? (on topic) I am very excited about the filter adapter. I am waiting for my 49mm 486 to send to Jim as I am afraid of ruining the glass if I do it myself.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted April 12, 2007 Share #99 Posted April 12, 2007 Okay let me hit on something i have discovered the adapter works great and no issues there but there are issues with a B+W 486 on the extreme wide angles 18mm, 16mm and the CV 15mm. What happnes is the B+W is overcorrecting too much and you still wind up with a little cyan cast in the 15 and 16mm. Without getting into the firmware mechnics all i can say is get the leica 49mm filter for the WATE and the leica 39mm filter for the CV 15mm. The result is what you see above. i would not wait on the free ones just buy the leica for these two lenses and be done with it and you just have to trust me on this one. I simply don't want anyone disapointed after they get this setup and not work perfectly. I'm really on the edge here so just follow me to the bridge and jump with me and really this is the only ones you should really get the leica's for sure
kidigital Posted April 12, 2007 Share #100 Posted April 12, 2007 Any idea where to get that 49mm in Leica version at this time? Anybody or any retailers with extras? Kurt
