Didinjoo Posted May 5, 2013 Share #21 Posted May 5, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) A screen protector is not necessary for the M240. Yes, it is necessary! I got a brand new M240 and used it 10 days on my vacation in New York, 9 to 19 April 2013 and I got scratches on my screen. I did not use screen protector because I read that M240 has a special glass, similar to quartz crystal glass use on watches. My Hermes watch is still scratch free after many years and that's why I though I don't need screen protectors. Now my M240 is send back to Leica for the loosen strap eyelets issue and I also reported the screen scratch. Regards, Didinjoo

jaapv Posted May 5, 2013 Share #22 Posted May 5, 2013 I must agree with this, if one is bothered by scratches on the LCD. (I am not). My two-year old iPhone which also has Gorilla Glass is all scratched up. It is not the same as Sapphire glass. Which, though not susceptible to scratches itself, can still sustain damage to the coating if you try hard enough.

I never use screen protectors on all my phone and digital cameras, as they are old after 3 years and I can enjoy using it until the new version come out. But I did not expect that the scratch came so fast, just 10 days! Any way the M240 is excellent! I enjoy my vacation and bring home 1400 pictures of New York. algrove Posted May 7, 2013 Share #25 Posted May 7, 2013 I've got a M-240 on order and I want to buy a glass screen protector for it. I use a GGS 2,5-inch protectors on my M9, but don't know what size screen to buy for the new camera. Some have said that the regular 3-inch screen will not fit it properly. Can someone, who already has an M-240 on hand, provide me with the correct screen dimensions or advise me as to what protector to buy? The screen is the same on on the S/S2 so look for one that fits that model and you should be OK. Ask your dealer what fits the S.

alexhart Posted May 8, 2013 Share #27 Posted May 8, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Currently I'm using the screen saving foil from Vikuiti which fits exactly. However, due to the large size of the screen it is always touched when holding the camera, especially at the lower right corner. Thus the foil begins to loosen at the corners only after 6 weeks use. So it seems that it will have to be changed quite often. Alexander
Guest malland Posted May 9, 2013 Share #28 Posted May 9, 2013 And he sounded so convincing, didn't he?Not at all. It's not the camera that needs a screen protector: screen protectors are available because some camera users have different types of layers in their brain, and some of the latter are affected if the camera doesn't have a screen protector. It's like UV filters, really. —Mitch/Paris Paris au rythme de Basquiat and Other Poems [download link for book project]

Its not perfect but quite adequate. When I use foils they come off after only a couple of weeks too. Right now there is no alternative unless you don' t care about scratches at all because you never want to sell your cam.
Ecar Posted May 18, 2013 Share #31 Posted May 18, 2013 Right now there is no alternative unless you don' t care about scratches at all because you never want to sell your cam. Some people don't sell their gear but don't like looking at scratched displays. I'm one of those. Same goes for my computer or mobile phone. YMMV. mirekti Posted May 23, 2013 Share #32 Posted May 23, 2013 As more and more Ms are coming in, did you decide what to use as a screen protector if anything at all? On the US Amazon there are Lexerd and Vikuiti only that offer the foil at the moment.

On Amazon UK site: Lexerd - Leica M TYP 240 TrueVue Kristallklar Digitalkamera Schutzfolie £7.50 Lexerd - Leica S2P TrueVue Crystal Clear Digital Camera Screen Protector £5.95 Lexerd - Leica S2 TrueVue Crystal Clear Digital Camera Screen Protector £5.95 All being sold by Lexerd UK, so I wonder if they're the same and it's just a question of latest product higher price? Maybe the typ 240 is a German import. Bob.

I picked up the AC MAXX protector for my M and put it on shortly ago and it'll do the job well. Granted, it's nowhere near is thin as I'd like it but it's sized just about right and much better protection than an inexpensive foil. I've always been a Giottos fan but until they make one, I'd recommend this.
lupico Posted June 2, 2013 Share #35 Posted June 2, 2013 Thanks Lupico for the recommendation. You are welcome. Bye the way: I took the AC MAXX off the camera once and put it back on a second body I got. It is really easy to take off and put back on. There are absolutely no residues and the protector is good as new.
doublep Posted April 5, 2014 Share #36 Posted April 5, 2014 I'm resurrecting this old thread to discuss screen protectors for the Typ240. I got my M a month ago and it's screen is already scratched (and I do take care of my cameras). Is the ACCMAX 3,0" still the best solution ? Thanks for your advice! williamgm Posted April 5, 2014 Share #37 Posted April 5, 2014 While I don't own a Leica M camera (yet), I use an Expert Shield screen protector on my Digilux 2 (& my Fuji X100S). They have a lifetime warranty and (in the UK at least) their customer support is excellent. Geoff

I got my M a month ago and it's screen is already scratched (and I do take care of my cameras). Is the ACCMAX 3,0" still the best solution ? Thanks for your advice! Note that in another thread the observation was made that the Giottos SP83022 screen protector is a near perfect fit. It's dimensions are 69 x 49 mm, which compares nicely to the Leica M Typ 240's screen dimensions of 70 x 49 mm. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-type-240/274744-m240-lcd-size-3-same-other.html
The Clam Posted April 6, 2014 Share #39 Posted April 6, 2014 I have had the AC MAXX on for about 6 months and am not all that happy with it. While it provides decent protection, it does not stay in place well. It doesn't fall off but shifts posiion frequently. I have a Luigi case on my M240 so perhaps that contributes to the problem. I never had a similar issue with GGS or other protectors made of glass. I'm still waiting for the right fit from Giottos or GGS.
doublep Posted April 6, 2014 Share #40 Posted April 6, 2014 Thanks for your answers. I think I'll go with the Giotto SP-83022.
