Advertisement Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Hi kivis, Take a look here Somebody, anybody, show me how to attach the Leica Strap. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
DigitalHeMan Posted March 24, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 24, 2013 If you have the manual it is explained fairly well there.
ayewing Posted March 24, 2013 Share #3 Posted March 24, 2013 I have done this before. But first how to release the clip. It seems stuck in place on both sides. The manual has a diagram showing how but does not address the problem of a stuck clip. I have found that if you grip the clip with your thumbnail in the slot in the clip with a little bit of coaxing the clip will slide up the strap away from the metal loop. I have just tried it on my M9 - quite easy on one side - a bit of a struggle on the other.
pico Posted March 24, 2013 Share #4 Posted March 24, 2013 Slide up the plastic cover, turn the ring to one side, slide it off by turning it over the lug.
Ecar Posted March 28, 2013 Share #5 Posted March 28, 2013 Understand the pain... I have seen my dealer doing both in 30 secs. My first attempt was more like 30 mins... But once it's attached, it's rock solid, which can also be bad news if, by any chance, you end up deciding that you'd like to replace it with one of those fancy leather straps... masjah Posted March 28, 2013 Share #6 Posted March 28, 2013 I don't have any trouble fixing the clips on to the camera; my problem is topological - after attaching the second clip I always seem to have a half twist in the strap - it's counter-intuitive which way round to start it off - I usually manage after a few attempts. wattsy Posted March 28, 2013 Share #7 Posted March 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) my problem is topological - after attaching the second clip I always seem to have a half twist in the strap. Yes, I used to do that a lot – no matter how hard you try you always seem to end up with a kind of 'Mobius strap'. In recent years I've taken to removing the metal part of the clip from the strap prior to attaching it to the camera. I put the clip on to the lug and then (after ensuring the strap is free from any twists) feed the strap onto the metal clip (then obviously click the plastic cover into place). It takes a few seconds to remove the metal clip but I find it quicker overall to do it this way.

120 Posted March 28, 2013 Share #9 Posted March 28, 2013 See FAQ here. Jeff you shouldn't need to take the rings off the strap. Dangle the strap above the camera in the correct position. On the shutter-button side of the camera, thread the inside end of the ring through the lug (i.e. back side of the lug). On the view finder side of the camera, thread the inside end of the ring through the lug (i.e. front side of the lug).

120 Posted March 29, 2013 Share #11 Posted March 29, 2013 You don't have to take the rings off - but it is a lot easier... It can't be easier; it's four extra steps to take the rings off and put them on. Just pretend the little ears on the Leica rings aren't there...as far as putting the strap on the camera they are exactly equivalent to plain rings. Do you have to take your shirt off to tie your necktie on? : )
jaapv Posted March 29, 2013 Share #12 Posted March 29, 2013 I wouldn't know; I never wear a tie. It works best for me this way for decades, YMMV.
120 Posted March 29, 2013 Share #13 Posted March 29, 2013 Looks like the monochrom strap has plain rings and the obvious instructions.
jaapv Posted March 29, 2013 Share #14 Posted March 29, 2013 It has, but it is too stiff.
120 Posted March 30, 2013 Share #15 Posted March 30, 2013 You may be a candidate then for a clip-on (ring, not necktie)...I think Luigi C. used to sell them.
jaapv Posted March 30, 2013 Share #16 Posted March 30, 2013 Which he does not guaranty against breaking... I really don't need any strap, I have a drawer full of them, including Leica, Gordy and a collection of Luigi's ones. The best ones by Luigi tend to be the ones without metal clips. JDFlood Posted April 1, 2013 Share #18 Posted April 1, 2013 I think it is actually a test. If you are not successful, then you are not worthy of owning a Leica. JD

JD JD - I suggest you contact the moderators to delete this reference in double quick time or risk an international incident. 007 could be contacting his friend Felix Leiter of CIA fame as we speak - I refer to the incorrectly attached strap of HRH's Leica M6 in November 1990. I am not sure the gruel in the Tower has yet achieved Michelin star status. Regards, Nick.
