koala54 Posted March 28, 2013 Share #22 Posted March 28, 2013 A sincere question for those in possession of the lens, do you really really love this hard to get premium cost lens?
algrove Posted March 28, 2013 Share #23 Posted March 28, 2013 A sincere question for those in possession of the lens, do you really really love this hard to get premium cost lens? So far I have actually used this lens very little for 2 reasons. I sent my MM into Leica for sensor cleaning, but more importantly I received an M and have been getting used to using R lenses on it for some time now with a Novoflex LEM/LER adapter. I did an unscientific 50mm lens test for myself and found this lens at the top. I also very much liked the 50/1.0 and 50/0.95 and surprisingly the 40/2.0. Considering the taxes on the APO almost come to the cost of the 40/2.0 this is an outstanding value. I listed the results here on LUF somewhere on a blind test basis (which took me considerable time to assemble 7 or 8 lens results and list them), but no one seemed in the slightest way interested so I have not pursued this any further on this LUF. koala54 Posted March 28, 2013 Share #24 Posted March 28, 2013 In agreement that most if not 90 percent of lenses are superb, some distinctly better and also subjective to each users personal interpretation of how they believe what constitute an output that is preferred. To me the output from the Summilux 50 1.4 ASPH is great and the output from the Noctilux 0.95 is also great with its own character, but my love? The Summilux 50 1.4 ASPH, why the ergonomics related to size, ease of use etc. Now coming back to the APO 50, due to its ergonomics I believe it is lens that I can love but over the Summilux 50 1.4 ASPH? Here I am more into the ergonomics aspect than the output as I know the output is superb for I have tried the lens. And finally I am sure with the APO 50 being in more users hands, the lens comparison study would be of most interest, the effort put in is NOT wasted! Sorry for not reacting, algrove, but surely I missed your thread. I do have interest in your results. Could you please point to the link? Thanks! jbl Posted March 30, 2013 Share #26 Posted March 30, 2013 It looks like Steve Huff managed to get a loaner so there's at least one more out there.

vikasmg Posted March 31, 2013 Share #30 Posted March 31, 2013 Do we have any idea how many people are seriously wanting one? I can't imagine there's more than 100 people, but what do I know.. Nope. There are 10,000 people who want one since 9,900 of them plan to sell it on eBay hoping to make a killing. Leica are experts at creating demand. Good for them. Being quite content with my present lenses I admit I dint pick up on this lens and was left wondering what all the fuss was about and what would justify a $7000K price on a 50mm Summicron. Well I read Ming Thien's review just now. I understand the fuss now, though I'm not about buy one (even if I could). To quote his conclusion >> It’s also clear that the resolving power of this lens goes far beyond the current M body sensors, and perhaps reading a little deeper, says something about the resolution and pixel density of future M-mount cameras. Having said all of that – I’ve been hugely impressed with the results I’ve seen out of this lens. If you have the money, and must have the best, then this is the 50mm for you. << http://blog.mingthein.com/2012/05/25/leica-50-2-apo-asph/ - Vikas

Yea I realize that. I guess it makes the lens all the more remarkable.
leica5 Posted April 1, 2013 Share #33 Posted April 1, 2013 Yes indeed,it is a remarkable lens for collection.Ming Thien's review is spot on and images are reflective of this lens. Hood twists and slides smoothly compared to noctilux 0.95. aperture ring has some play as noted in his review,
