Known problems with bright lines in MP viewfinder

Over some time now I noticed how on the 35mm lens setting the two vertical bright lines have almost faded from view in the finder. The lower portions are also bending slightly outwards.

The lines can't fade or bend, they're produced by a mask within the viewfinder. Try moving the frame selection lever. Sometimes they can stick a little & will not show clearly.

 

They are illuminated by ambient light so brightness depends on where you are - the new M uses an led bulb instead of the window on the front of your camera.

You've not got your finger straying over the illumination window have you?

No fingers over windows, what I see in the finder is bent vertical lines on a 35mm lens.

I can only think that one of the masks has become loose and isn't lining up correctly - you need to send it back for repair.

I had issues with my early-production modern MP not engaging the correct frame lines. I sent it in past the 5-year passport and Leica US still repaired it for free. Your experience may differ.
