Bucuresti77 Posted March 20, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 20, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello. I have for sale a Voigtlander r3m with grip and flash. I own a Leica M8 and i'm not interested in analog photography anymore, so I have to sell the Voightlander and use it's lenses on Leica M8. Yesterday a guy offered me an exchange deal: My r3m (kit) with Voigtlander Super Wide Heliar 15 mm f4.5 (leica M mount). I'm not into landscape photography, but, I guess this lens will serve me better than an analog rangefinder body (that stays unused). I 've already own a Leica Summicron M 2/50mm 6 BIT-Coded and a VC 40mm 1.4. Have anyone tried out the 15mm VC ? Worth the exchange? Thanks.

Ulrik Posted March 20, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 20, 2013 Easy, the 15 mm lens in M-mount version (which has RF-coupling and filter thread) is a very good lens and should complement your kit nicely. Ulrik
giordano Posted March 20, 2013 Share #3 Posted March 20, 2013 Yes, it works very well on the M8. Remember that you'll need a 20 or 21 mm external viewfinder; I use the one that was sold with the Voigtlander 21/4 screw mount lens.

If I'll try to code it. won't be enough the markings inside the viefinder ( if the 6 bit code vil work out) ? Or it will overpass the markings? Thanks
earleygallery Posted March 20, 2013 Share #5 Posted March 20, 2013 Simple, it will equate to a 20mm on your M8, which has a widest 28mm viewfinder.
Virginia Bill Posted March 20, 2013 Share #6 Posted March 20, 2013 The 15mm Helar is a very nice lens on the M8. A viewfinder is handy because the M8 has no framelines for 15mm -- but the entire viewfinder window is an approximate match for the lens' field of view. Note that the lens comes in two versions, one screw mount (so you use a simple adapter) and one M mount. My older screw mount version doesn't couple to the rangefinder focusing mechanism, but I've never found that be a problem since dof with this lens is massive. The M mount version does couple for focusing. Either version is the most economical way to make real wide-angle images with the M8. Mine came as part of a package deal, and I didn't use it for a while. But when I got around to trying it out, the lens proved to be a very pleasant addition to my kit. Erik Gunst Lund Posted March 21, 2013 Share #7 Posted March 21, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The 15mm Helar is a very nice lens on the M8. I would have to disagree here, the entire viewfinder window is an approximately match for an 21mm lens on an M8, equal to an 28mm lens field of view on a full frame camera. For the 15mm on M8 a 20mm or 21mm external viewfinder is recommended, unless you just shoot from the hip
Pintpot Posted March 21, 2013 Share #8 Posted March 21, 2013 If you can - keep the 15mm C/V, - and while I don't use mine a lot it's a good lens to have in the M8 kit (it's even better full frame on my M2) I also should get a 21mm finder, but as I use glasses and that limits the field of view through a finder I still use the 15mm one that came with the lens. Here's a sample photo with a Heliopan IR filter stuck on the lens - hence the slight vignetting as the filter rim gets in the way
Bucuresti77 Posted March 21, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted March 21, 2013 Well, thank you all for the input . I will indeed make the exchange. I guess that anyway a lens will preserve it's value more then a body (r3m). So, even if I don't use it on my regular shooting time, it is a good value to preserve. Then again I noticed that's a good lens even for street photography or architecture. Cheers
