Susie Posted March 9, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted March 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Â My partner and I are thinking of visiting the factory at the begining of May during a short motorcycle touring holiday. I see that tours need to be booked, but I was wondering if anyone can suggest anything else to see nearby and reccomendations for places to stay for a night or two, either a family run hotel or B&B. Â Thanks, Â Susie

andybarton Posted March 10, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted March 10, 2013 IIRC, The Wetzlarhof is the place where Leica staff stay. Â Make of that what you will. Â We are staying elsewhere in October...
pedaes Posted March 10, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted March 10, 2013 The Hotel Burgerhof is a very good value family run hotel which is a couple of hundred yards from Cathedral and old city. It is a short walk to the old Leica factory and you can just walk into the former admin building which is now the Town Hall. If you go to the top floor there is a good display of old microscopes and the link bridge to the factory contains a number of boards with interesting photos of the factory and key people in the Leica story. Enjoy your visit.
Susie Posted March 11, 2013 Author Share #5 Â Posted March 11, 2013 The Hotel Burgerhof is a very good value family run hotel which is a couple of hundred yards from Cathedral and old city. Â Â Thanks Pedaes. We like to stay in family hotels near the town squares, just so we can wander round in the evening and sample a few local beers! Free garage parking for motorcycles is a plus point too. Â Susie
jaapv Posted March 11, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted March 11, 2013 IIRC factory visits have been suspended for the time being pending the move to Wetzlar. But do inquire with Leica.
Orient XI Posted May 15, 2013 Share #7  Posted May 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've always been very happy to stay at the Bürgerhof. The old university town of Marburg about 50km NW of Wetzlar is well worth a visit for its architecture. If you're travelling up the Lahn valley then stop for a while in Limburg/Lahn. Otherwise as Dr.Johnson said worth seeing but not worth going to see. Avoid Giessen!
