MarkP Posted March 11, 2013 Share #21 Â Posted March 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) According to Leica the lenses are weather-resistant enough to be used to the same extent as the (weatherproofed) M. Â So with respect to water exposure, to what extent does Leica advise that the (weatherproofed) M can be used?

jaapv Posted March 11, 2013 Share #23 Â Posted March 11, 2013 So with respect to water exposure, to what extent does Leica advise that the (weatherproofed) M can be used? "splash water protected".... Make of it what you like. With an undefined amount of splash, It will be interesting to see how guaranty claims for moisture damage will be handled. It will be clear that the camera should resist "normal" rain and other regular use. And equally clear that it cannot be taken diving in the Red Sea. But inbetween will be a grey area. Dunk it for a few seconds? Salt or fresh water? High-condensation conditions? Tropical rainforest? Etc. Â It would be nice to get some guidelines from Leica. pgk Posted March 11, 2013 Share #24 Â Posted March 11, 2013 "splash water protected".... Make of it what you like. With an undefined amount of splash, It will be interesting to see how guaranty claims for moisture damage will be handled. Is there no IP code quoted? There are set standards for claims of water resistance/proofness. If there is an IP number then its specification are easy to look up, see IP Code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia although they may not be so easy to appreciate in practice. It looks rather as if Leica claim 'splash-proof' which might suggest a rating of IPX4 which is 'splash-proof' in all directions (~ish;)). But unless Leica actually define what they mean by 'splash-proof' (IP rating and caveats) its difficult to be certain..... . Â Moisture damage in a 'better sealed' camera might lead one to suspect that it has been subject to a higher degree of misuse of course:confused:. Â +1 Â But I suspect it will be handled case by case. Do we know of any manufacturer that provides specific guidelines? Â Jeff
