Just noticed, while working today, that my M8, will not expose @ 1/8000 sec, this occurs

both in A mode and manual, i tried to use f/2 and ISO 160 for portraits in bright sunshine, and the camera's metering selects 1/8000 sec, the shutter goes off, and it makes a image

but it's all black and contains no info what so ever... and yes i tried several shots, changed battery's, turn off and on, and so on...

Can someone else with FW 1.92 please try this, just to check if this is FW related, i can't

remember seeing this problem prior to upgrading the FW 1.92...

Thanks.. :-)

Just checked the 1/8000 sec files from my camera, and there is info in them, but not the kind of info i would like to see :-(

I also reloaded firmware, but "no fix" in this either :-(

That looks like a sticking shutter. I would call Leica immediately (they tend to go home at 16.00) and have them collect your camera. That can be fast. I called today and my camera will be collected tomorrow for a minor electronic fault.Tel.: +49 6442 208 165

Take the lens off set it to 1/8000 and watch the shutter with your eye. It maybe sticking

Thanks Guy but i already tried that, and i can't see if it's good or bad, 1/8000 sec

is not easy to spot with the naked eye... :-(

Alex before you send it off , is there just a local repair shop near you . Most repair shops can test a shutter without opening the camera or anything like that. it just goes on a machine and does the same thing as your eye only much better and measures the speed .

What is the point of testing yourself Guy? He is in Europe. Leica has a turnaround of 12 days there including collect/deliver. Sometimes even a lot faster.I would not even look at the camera any more but call Leica M8 support. As you know they are really good.

I wonder why Leica does not set up a full service centre in the USA. All that shipping back and forth of M8's and apo lenses must not only cost fortunes and give endless customs and transport hassles, it also p****s off American customers by appearing to be inefficient. If I compare it to the customer service provided in Europe mainland by Solms, which is really A+, it gives food for thought.

Thanks everyone...

Iv'e sent my contact at Leica Solms an email an will wait to see

their response on this matter, i wonder if a downgrade to 1.90 would

fix this issue, but then again Leica warns about downgrading so i'm

a bit scared of doing this... but i did not have this problem before upgrading

to fw 1.92....so....???

There is a bit to much problems with this little baby, but the love for this

camera "smacks me in the back of my head" once again, there is something

with this camera's that reminds me alot of nikotin in sigarett's, i hate the problems

it gives me, like freezing, unstableness, and so on, but in the end i tend to "push

all that aside and fooling/telling myself this what i need, and really enjoy it until the

next strange thing occurs...constantly crossing my fingers....

I really hope the reliability will be WAY better on this product, since i

have had more problems in this short period of time with my M8 and

DMR than i have had with all of my other systems all together, i've used Nikon,

Canon, Pentax, Mamiya, Hasselblad and thats over a 17 years period...

My M6 has never failed me, ever... and i think this only really shows that, electronics

is not Leica's strongest side, but after some time they will get it right... (i hope...)
