M8 and the SF58

Not sure, how many shots you intend to do, but the SF58 at full flash is probably more than 100, so at average wedding light with flash support, maybe 200 shots.

I would be more looking at speed and which type of battery recharges fastest. I think Alkali or Lithium are fast due to the 1.5V cell voltage.

Just keep a second or third set, rather than an extra pack hanging on the system and limiting you flexibility.

You can change batteries in less than 10 seconds, I would say, not even removing the flash from the camera.

If I might make a recommendation, I use NiZn rechargeables in the SF58. I have found that they cycle quicker than NiMH due to higher voltage (1.55V against 1.2V) and hold their charge far better, so that you don't get the phenomenon, that you come to the flash after a month of non-use to find the batteries flat. NiZn need a dedicated charger. At least 100 full power flashes/set.

They also work very well in Apple Bluetooth devices, where NiMH batteries fall below the required voltage after just a few days. A pair lasts me 3 months/charge in my Magic Trackpad.

In very cold weather, there is only one choice and that is non-rechargeable Lithium AA, even if it is an expensive route.

Thanks for your advice, I must say it could well be a pain lugging a power pack all over the place, but that is what I don't know. Good info on rechargeables. Think I may just carry a spare pack with me!
