Guest WPalank Posted February 27, 2013 Share #142 Posted February 27, 2013 A quick, honest question out of curiosity - where does one find statistics on the number of an item delivered to the US? Thanks. Eric I can also tell you who gets the next one coming into the US, but I don't plan on doing so. Although, it is the cool thing to do now, I don't trust people that don't take the time to fill out their Forum identity (sex, where are you from, etc.) It's a me thing.... A quick, honest response...
teeraash Posted February 27, 2013 Share #143 Posted February 27, 2013 The Leica authorise distributor here has increased M price by 1000usd above the previous announced list price (given to dealers) without given any reason. Guess this is an admission to early Ms in this part of the World. List prices now are around 8700usd in Singapore and 9000usd in Thailand. But in Singapore, you're required to buy one additional lens with the body. The D-Day in Singapore is 28th Feb. Decision, decision...leave it or take it. BTW, I'm living in Bangkok. enboe Posted February 27, 2013 Share #145 Posted February 27, 2013 I would offer my apologies. I did not know that lack of profile information made members uncomfortable. I have been a member, and hopefully useful participant, for approaching eleven years. Please feel free to audit my past posts to see what my contribution types are. I have populated my location, gender, and general types of equipment now. I hope that will facilitate collaboration in a cordial fashion. I still am curious where one finds US delivery statistics. I only am interested in a response, however, if such information is from appropriate, public sources. I don't want to have access to anything proprietary. I defer to the judgement of sources on if the information is appropriate for this audience. Respectfully, Eric
trond Posted February 27, 2013 Share #146 Posted February 27, 2013 Hi Eric! I guess that Leica or any other manufacturer, keeps these numbers to them selves!? There would be to much competitive information in such statistics. You would probably have to do a poll here on the forum and elsewhere. But numbers would be highly inaccurate as the reply rate would be unknown. Best regards Trond

gpwhite Posted February 27, 2013 Share #150 Posted February 27, 2013 That is absolute rubbish! Myself and 2 others got ours from the same store, the same day, earlier this month. So that makes 3 APO's sold from just one store. Yes, I agree with algrove that the 50mm APO's are trickling in (I think of it as 50AA since I have other Leica APO's). I got mine on February 1 and two others were delivered by my dealer that same day. He also expects M240 by the latter part of March, so it is no surprise to read that the new bodies are available to "demo" in Europe. Algrove, as I remember, you have and use all of the wide-angle Elmars. I know they are different perspectives, but which lens do you think produces images (prints, really) that most jump up and grab you... 50 AA or 24 Elmar? algrove Posted February 28, 2013 Share #151 Posted February 28, 2013 Peter-To be honest at this point it is too early for me to make too many comparisons as you ask. Currently,I am concentrating on using it on the MM versus other 50's, old and new. Initially, I very much like the AA50, the 50/1.0 and would you believe the 40/2.0 out of 9 lenses I have compared while shooting during a totally informal "test" if one must label it. I did not focus bracket as this would have been just too time consuming for me on the day. The 21 SEM is very good as is the 24. I also use the 18 from time to time. But for jumping out in prints so far it is not wides, but my APO 90 /2 that has produced very nice popping images/prints. Yes, I am amazed at how much I use that lens during landscape shooting. During one of my recent outings I tried to get within 21 to 50mm territory of something I'd spotted, but got stuck. So I dragged out the trusty 90 and put it on the MM and started walking, but could not even get close to my "spot" before the morning sunrise got too high. The 90 saved me. THEME Posted February 28, 2013 Share #154 Posted February 28, 2013 And another friend of mine from the Midwest also got his from the same store when we got ours. So far no APO regrets whatsoever? gpwhite Posted February 28, 2013 Share #157 Posted February 28, 2013 reply to THEME re the 50AA I had very high expectations for the 50AA, at least as high as its price. Well, it comes in a ludicrously large box.... the images are at the same time razor sharp and uniquely smooth. Contrast is quite a bit higher to me than my 50 f/1.4 ASPH. All aspects of performance (on my M9) seem truly consistent from f/2 onwards and from 0.7m onwards. The only difference you see from the closing down is more DOF. I am completely addicted to shooting the 50AA at f/2 (or f/2.4, which seems to eliminate visible vignetting). The only thing that surprises me is that color saturation is only a bit deeper than a 35 FLE, although neutral not warm like the SX. I find my 24 Elmar is more saturated. Zero regrets! The lens is unique and fantastic, just as Erwin Puts' review suggests. question for SILLBEERS 15 Are you taking delivery of your M in Europe or US? I asked for delivery in the second or third batch (silver chrome) from my dealer in NY because I thought it would be safer to let Leica make a few bodies. However, after reading all of the thoughtful and favorable reviews from Jono, Puts and Thien, I am more anxious. I look forward to your comparison comments vis-a-vis M9.
