helged Posted February 13, 2013 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi folks, one interesting feature with M240 is macro photography. Of course, macro photography can be done with the existing M's (as well as M240) with, for instance, visoflex and bellows (I actually have and use visoflex+bellowsII with M9). I will not, however, bring with me visoflex and bellows for long and strenuous (several days to weeks) hiking trips. A convenient substitute would be some sort of helicoid that can be put between the M240 and a suitable m-lens, for instance the 90 mm macro-elmar. I would think that the weight and size of a helicoid are next to nothing, so such a system should work for macro, even when weight and size of the gear need to be kept low/down. Another option would be to use some sort of fixed length adaptor-rings. I guess some of the visoflex-adaptors can be used. The problem here is that I would like to use m-lenses. Any suggestions how macro photography with the M240 can be conveniently done without the use of bellows? (and with greater flexibility than what the 90 mm macro-elmar+adaptor combo offers). Thanks a lot! Helge

helged Posted February 13, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted February 13, 2013 Apo-Macro-Elmarit-R on R adapter. Sure - but the Apo-Macro-Elmarit is rather large and heavy - so I would prefer a macro-option with a M-lens (but without viso and/or bellows). jaapv Posted February 13, 2013 Share #5 Posted February 13, 2013 Well, I I just bought a Corfield Lumax 45/1.9 off e-bay. It focuses down to approx. 15 cm. an alternative is to use a 135/4.0 lens head on the Universalschnecke 16464 with extension tubes.
Michael Geschlecht Posted February 14, 2013 Share #6 Posted February 14, 2013 Hello Helged, Welcome to the Forum. The outfit Jaap has suggested for the 135mm F4 will also allow you to use various 65mm & 90mm lens heads without other accessories. From Infinity to relatively close up. There are also other adapters, etc for use with the Visoflex that allow closeups with various other lenses & lens heads. Best Regards, Michael

Thanks a lot! Helge Helge, Excellent train of thought. Thanks. If I might expand just a tad. A very useful tool would also be a helicoid replacement for the 41 mm thick Visoflex. I would use such a device on the Telyt 400/6.8 and 560/6.8 trombone like focusing. A helicoid would be perfect for fine focusing and one could still reach infinity. jamriman Posted August 10, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 10, 2014 I guess the new macro elmar adapter fits the bill. I wish we had other helicoid choices. $650 is just too much for me.

Yes, the new macro elmar adapter is what I was looking for. I have one, with somewhat mixed experience so far. Build quality seems top, but I don't like to keep it permanently on the previous incarnation of the 90 Marco Elmar due to the adapter's weight and since the original 90 Macro Elmar cannot be locked when retracted. The macro adapter is, however, quick to add when macro is wanted (and the body is M240), so I bring the adapter with me when I foresee macro opportunities. One can, of course, add the Novoflex ring set (or other extension adapters) to get even larger magnifications. Not into the bellows territory, perhaps, but surely a portable option.
