Dumb film question

Ok ... so, I've been retired for a bit now and we are in the process of moving permanently 2,000 miles across the country. Our next trip to our new home will be via automobile, with the truck carrying our furnishings to follow. This milestone leaves me with a question about the dozen or so rolls of film that I've been storing in our refrigerator.

Our trip will take 4-5 days and I'm not much inclined to transport this film across the country in a cooler packed with ice unless absolutely necessary. Will it harm the film in any way if I allow it to warm up during the trip west and then cool it down again once we arrive at our new home ?

Thanks guys for the prompt resonse.

I definitely don't intend to to abuse the film during the trip ... it'll probably travel in a carefully packed box or suitcase and we'll be traveling in cool weather, so I don't think it'll be too hard to keep it from overheating.

I just wasn't sure if the "cool--warm--cool again--warm again to use" cycle would do the film any harm.

Hello Robert,

I would recommend putting the film (Originally put in the freezer in resealable freezer bags.) in a big resealable freezer bag the day before you plan on taking it out of the freezer. Squeeze out all of the air before closing the bag.

Next day: Put the bag somewhere where it does not get warmer than everything else while travelling. Do not open the bag during the trip. When you get to your new home put the large bag in the new freezer in its new home without opening it.

The additional bag over the other bags is a way of being doubly safe by giving the film a backup safety system.

And: After the film has safely arrived at its new home & has moved into its new freezer: Leave the film in the freezer in its new larger sealed bag at least overnite before opening it to get to the other smaller sealed freezer bags inside.

Leave the film in its original smaller freezer bags in the freezer in its new home until you need it. Take it out the day before you use it but do not open the freezer bags until the film sits at least overnite.

Enjoy your new life.

Best Regards,

Michael
