LR4 noise reduction

I have been experimenting with noise reduction, to see what I might be able to achieve with higher ISO setting on my M9-P

I have the LuLa videos and have watched a number of others and experimented a fair bit. The trouble is I am struggling to find good settings for 1,000 and 1,600. Every time I think I have improved I see that awful plasticity in the finished image. Any advice and M9 specific settings ?

I have tried the settings below but welcome other suggestions

Buy a product like Nik Define where you can control where the NR is applied. Even better, export the image to CS6, then employing Layer Masks, paint in the NR only where it is needed.

I rarely find an image that needs NR globally.

No need; LR 4 (unlike LR 3) allows for local noise control using either the adjustment brush or the graduated filter tool in the develop module.
