Hahaha Jaap,

I'll take that as a compliment. But you probably wouldn't want me near your teeth. :)

Hans

Just come past, I'll have a go at yours - :D:D but you'll have to look at my M8 exhibition in my practice first...:p

Here are 2 with the 65/3.5 elmar. I love the way this lens renders. Besides being optimized for macro work it should make a great portrait lens on the M8.

I like the chimney finder for Macro work. The viewfinder is incredibly bright with the straight finder, it makes DSLR viewfinders look like dim tunnels. I was surprised I prefered working with this set up to my 1Ds.

the combination of the M8/Viso as demonstrated here by jaap, Hans & Hank's samples

I never knew about this option when I got the M8 & this has been a most delightful surprise for me

my interest in photography was spurred by my familial orchid hobby ...I started taking pictures of our collection with an Agfa 1280 and had used Fujifilm DSLRs until now as I love their color rendition

the M8/Viso combination produces results that are astonishingly good ...I have been using the 135 Tele Elmar head that came with my Viso III and the bellows attachment to focus ...I can stop this lens down to about f13 without too much a problem, though do most of my macro shooting between f 8 and f 11 ...I do wish a tilt/shift option existed for the Viso

I only have the prism finder, so to use fill flash I detach it & use a simple slide loupe to help with focus/framing after getting close with the finder attached ...I like this simple solution as my finder magnifies 8 X (Peak makes it) & the ground glass seems sufficiently bright with the aperture wide open to focus accurately ...framing takes a little getting used to as matters reverse, but I have adjusted to this well ...besides being an inexpensive solution, the loupe is shorter than chimneys I have seen & very light in weight

I have a 65 f3.5 Elmar on order (Hank is yours the black or chrome version?) ...I need the wider angle for some plants and the extra 1/2 stop should make my viewfinder with loupe even brighter still

given thpeters comment I will not post any of my macros here, but this link is where I have some of my floral macros

I have the Viso Bellows now but can't find a 16559G to mount my 90 macro too , so i may sell it. I have the Viso/ 90mm macro and adapter and for me that is close enough

Great stuff. I have been looking for a Viso III for a while and can't find one. Any one know where I can pick one up?

Bellows would be nice too :D

I know these guys have a number of VISO III in stock:

info[at]kamera-express.nl

They also have some 16466 adapters

The bellows can be ordered new from Novoflex. Quote adapter VISA and the appropriate lens mount.

I too have fallen under the Viso III spell for a while. I also have a 90mm macro which I would like to try out on a set of bellows if I can get the right attachments first.

I found the following picture from an old accessory catalog and have determined that a 16596

would be the right thing.

Can anyone tell me the difference between a 16596 and a 16596G if there is any.

If you look closely at the Leitz diagram that Nick posted, you will find that the detacheable lens heads of several older 90 mm lenses can be used directly on the Viso via the same Universal Focusing Unit that is used with the 65 mm Elmar. This was once a very popular combo, and it is still very good. The lenses will still focus to inf. too! I bought a nice 1958 vintage Elmarit just for this purpose, but found it soo good for general photography that I had the focusing unit refurbished and now this ancient warhorse is a favourite. And the Elmarit lenses can be had for a song. (Note: the later Tele-Elmarit lenses cannot be used as they do not have detacheable lens heads.)

Jaap,

Thanks to you, Guy and other members' research and threads, I settled a few weeks ago with a visoflex III + bellows + the front element of a 90/2.8. It allows to focus from just a few inches up to infinity. I just now keep the whole thing mounted and mount the M8 whenever I need to make macro shot. Performances are outstanding, although the image is lightly washed and need more adjustment in C1 than normal. The bellows is kind of fun to work with. I am not too crazy about the focusing screen, and I wish I could replace it with a better one.

Attached is an image of the setup, and the other image is as close I could get of a 50/2 - no crop.

Thanks again for all the invaluable resources of this forum....

Gilles

Make your own frame mask:

A piece of LCD protector foil

A sharp knife/surgical scalpel

A 10x loupe on a stand

Some patience:

Cut the inside to 18x24

Cut the outside to 22x34 round corners

And stick it on top of your matte screen

The whole frame is visible with black framelines for the M8 :)

Jaap, the correct measure is 18 x 27 mm (proportions 2:3).

Here's one more to show the visoflex capabilities. This time in combination with a 90mm summicron M.

  • 2 months later...

And just for fun...one more. Bumblebee lit by a small Maglite LED lamp. Nothing fancy, just came accross it.

Just to report that the Brightscreen with M8 engraving works just fine. Only drawback: the Viso is so oldfashioned that the screen has a bit of light falloff towards the corners.
