topoxforddoc Posted March 25, 2007 Share #1  Posted March 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Guys,  Can any of you give me tips for a fashion shoot. I've been asked to shoot a charity fashion show at my kids' school. I was planning to take my R9/DMR with a 28090 asph and the 80-200/4 with a Metz MZ54 flash and my trusty M6TTL as a backup. Fortunately I get two bites at the cherry as the show is running two nights.  Do you guys normally shoot with flash or available light only? I'll be the only photographer there, so I guess I'll have that spot at the end of the runway.  Thanks  Charlie
graeme_clarke Posted March 25, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 25, 2007 Hello Charlie, Â I've just done my grandson's 7th birthday party which was in a community centre hall. Lighting was pretty dim - some fluorescent tubes and disco lighting. I needed flash - a Metx 40mz on a R9/DMR set at iso 200, w/b electronic flash, with a 28-90 and a 180. I got away with a diffuser card and the head turned upwards for bounce flash with the 28-90 - and no red-eye! It needed the head pointing at the subject with the 180 and this in turn led to red-eye as the youngsters' pupils were wide open in the dim light. I used f5.6 most of the time. Â It only took a couple of test shots to see what was happening on the review screen. Â I've also shot autumn and Christmas fairs in schools. My advice is try to get a background that doesn't show shadows from the flash. If the models are walking towards you, focus just in front of a mark on the floor and hit the shutter when they're there. Focussing in dim light is slow, if not impossible, when the subject is moving, especially when using the telephoto end of the lenses. Â Hope this helps, Enjoy yourself.
