wda Posted February 19, 2013 Share #21 Â Posted February 19, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, lens sub-forum,I get as much pleasure as the next guy dreaming about the newer, faster M lenses, but I own nothing more exotic than f:2 Summicrons. .... Larry, why do you sound apologetic about owning such iconic and superb lenses as the Leica Summicron? The Summicrons are the traditional workhorses and will always remain so, capable of giving superb results.. Â But back to your thread. I also gain much pleasure from my 135mm Elmar lens and retained it despite a later purchase of the TeleElmar. Like many lenses of that period the Elmar gives a classic rendering without the harshness some more modern designs give. I love it for portraiture and the sheer pleasure of using it. jaapv Posted February 19, 2013 Share #22 Â Posted February 19, 2013 May I add that the 4.0 Elmar 135 ( the old one) is arguably the best IR lens I've ever seen.
wizard Posted February 19, 2013 Share #23  Posted February 19, 2013 I should sell my 4.3/135 APO-Telyt, buy a 50 year old 4.0/135 TE, and put the change towards a nice holiday  Mark, you will have a lot of change left once your one of a kind APO-Telyt is sold. Unfortunately, I only have the regular 3.4/135 version of that lens .  Andy

The Summicrons are the traditional workhorses and will always remain so, capable of giving superb results..  No apologetic tone intended. My Summicrons are still with me (the oldest I got around 1970) and we've become fast, but not very fast, friends (the Elmarits and Elmar are the slower friends). On Saturday I had a chance to use the 135 Elmar at longer range, shown here, including details. Welcome, dear visitor!
