The push on plastic pieces that lock down the ends of the strap are not easy to move. I don't know if the poster had followed the instructions correctly, but I really can''t see how a corrected fitted strap could just come unloose. gravastar Posted March 25, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 25, 2007 If you look at the back of the strap between the camera and the adjustment buckle you can see that the end of the strap is stitched to another section of strap. Whether or not the plastic piece broke because of him hitting it against something or it was just a bad part doesn't really mater. To get the actual strap out of the metal ring or to get the metal ring off the camera eyelet takes some twisting, turning and force. In the end it is the users responsibility to check this everytime he picks up the camera. Personally I would never carry any camera over just one should. I carry them around my neck and under one arm. Usually around the right side of my neck and the strap goes under my left arm. It's to easily knocked off or can slide off without to much force when having it slung over one shoulder. when I'm out walking with it, as I was this morning, I've always got one hand on it unless I'm stopping to look at something and need both hand to pick that something up. I use old ones, i have some in reserve, also the seldom and unconfortable, but strong #14253.You know, those made in Germany, not made in China ! Â To me the original strap that comes with the M8 is the same as earlier models. I ordered and got 2 new ones from B&H and they look the exactly the same as the one that came with the M8. It is the same part number 14 312. They came in a all white box, just like the old boxes used for Leica lenses, not the newer silver colored boxes that newer Leica gear comes in. It is good for an anti camera snatching precaution as well. I meant to get one for my trip to Barcelona but left it too late. I also feel that whereas this strap was fine on a big SLR (Contax RX) it is a bit too heavy for the M8. I gave my last one to a friend's son who was going off to South America with his RTSIII. luigi bertolotti Posted March 26, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted March 26, 2007 Does not concern directly the thread...but when I red, into the link, the words "an horrible "thud"", I was forced to remember one day in 1979, a time when I did serious mountain climbing... with my M2; during the ascent, at a moment I heard not a "thud" , but a kind "swish"... strap was gone and M2 went into the air... I succeded in taking it on about 30 meters lower... fallen into grass... mechanical was OK, the viewfinder completely black except the RF small window. However I cannot get through to him by email at webmaster@leicatime.com I have been trying all day but Yahoo keeps rejecting it. Anyone else been able to contact him on this address recently?
