Alexander Charles Posted January 31, 2013 Share #1  Posted January 31, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) On a recent trip to the Maldives, this was one of several fruit bats that flew around the hotel. These bats are active in the daytime, amusing and terrifying the guests. This particular one had a wingspan of about 1 meter. This was a lucky shot.  Taken with M9, 35mm, 150sec, f5.7, ISO 160, edited with Silver Efex Pro. Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted January 31, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted January 31, 2013 Alexander - Â Terrific, and all the more so when one knows how difficult it is to capture them on the wing. Bats are among the most misunderstood and wrongfully maligned of creatures. I've handled fruit bats, which are rather sweet. Bats tend to be good, attentive parents, and many species significantly hold down insect populations.

platypus Posted February 1, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted February 1, 2013 Love your bat shot. All (or most) of photography is made up in great part of "luck" in catching the decisive moment.

Alexander Charles Posted February 6, 2013 Author Share #8 Â Posted February 6, 2013 Sorry for the delayed response. I would like to thank everyone for their comments. Yes, this was tricky shot with an M9. The fruit bats with their long snouts and friendly dispositions reminded me my Labrador Retriever. They certainly didn't seem 'vampire-like' in any way.
