i like such scenes - they spray melancholy.....

 

unfortunately, I do not know the situation on site, however, I would not have taken perhaps the right source of light with in the picture, while I would have taken up some steps from the right this scene (the man is otherwise too concentric to me)

however, for me a little more consistent

 

but, it´s only my personal opinion

Stephen,

 

A wonderful shot with great impact, tones and mood. However I would crop out the lighted area at the top left corner of the picture including the window. That would get rid of the slightly distracting area and also move the subject out of the center of the picture which will balance it more.

Upon further review, I think your composition is as good as it can get. With the man walking down the street which adds depth to the scene, cropping off either side would make it more awkward. I love the feeling this shot gives. "Going Home".
