sermed Posted January 9, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Creative people out there, i call my self Fashion and Street Photographer, i have been a loyal customer of Canon for long, for strobes i use profoto, Recently i got Fuji X Pro1 and X-E1 for my street photography and i have been impressed with its performance. Using Fuji made me think of Leica and how good this would be, I have never used Leica and bit apprehensive in the Manual focusing, but i want to give it a try. Looking at M series I need your advice on the camera body and which lens should i get ( Mainly street & Travel Photography) Thanks in advance Website Facebook Page 500px

viramati Posted January 9, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 9, 2013 From looking at your site it looks like you're doing pretty well with what you've got. You will probably want to wait for the new M to come out and maybe take a look at the leica S system (for your fashion work). Should imagine that you would want the 50 summilux asph (IMHO the best 50 f1.4 lens in the world) and for longer work 90 summicron lenses. for wider work the 28 summicron asph is hard to beat and IMO one of the best lenses leica has ever built. When travelling and for street and documentary work I carry 2 Leica M9 bodies with the 50 on one and the 28 on the other. I basically use this combination for 90% of what I do. Will occasionally use an old 90 Elmarit-M lens and the 16-18-21 wide-angle-tri-elmar. A lot of people will recommend the 35 summilux FLE which is no doubt an extraordinary lens but for street work I prefer to be able to get close and have a bit more FOV also if shooting from the hip it will give you more DOF. firstlight Posted January 9, 2013 Share #3 Posted January 9, 2013 I sense an endless discussion comming up about lense recommendations Every photographer has it's own preferences. I was shooting my whole scottland trip with a 21mm lense on a 1.5 crop ( this would result in 31.5mm on M). And I just loved it! I also had a 35mm lense with me (52.5mm on crop) but I've never used it, it's just to close. Now my questions is if I should go with an 28mm with the new M What do you guys think about an 21-28-35mm setup?
jaapv Posted January 9, 2013 Share #4 Posted January 9, 2013 If 35-50 is too close for you, 28-35 will certainly be so as well.
earleygallery Posted January 9, 2013 Share #5 Posted January 9, 2013 I need your advice on the camera body and which lens should i get ( Mainly street & Travel Photography) Thanks in advance Hello, Digital or film camera? What kind of budget do you have? If you are thinking of a digital M camera then you have the choice from an M8/M9/MM at prices from about £1500 and up. For a first lens choose one that is similar to your most often used focal length on your Fuji's. A 35 or 50mm is a good 'all rounder' for travel/street. sermed Posted January 10, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted January 10, 2013 I am looking for a digital one, i think i will wait for the new M and choose between 50 and 35mm. But i really want to know one thing what Leica does which other camera can't do, or its just satisfaction of having red dot
jaapv Posted January 10, 2013 Share #7 Posted January 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you have to ask, I would suggest you research your options a bit better. A Leica M is a great camera capable of excellent images, but is certainly different from other brand cameras in many ways.

If you are happy with your current cameras stick with them until you have a better idea of what you need from another system.
