mmradman Posted December 16, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 16, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Lately we have a pleasure to see many wonderful images taken with older lenses some of them never intended to be used on Leica camera let alone digital platform - referring specifically to View Through Older Glass http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-lenses/253049-view-through-older-glass.html. There were few images showing setup but as far as I know there was no effort to collate information on lens conversion in one place. Thanks to LUF member "farnz" for the suggestion to start this thread. I have interest in conversions and am very curious to see your setup. I can also anticipate myriad of adaptations of all sort of legacy optics once new M(240) becomes available. Rule for posting is simple one; either lens or camera or both to be Leica. This is M lens forum but this should be extended beyond M lenses after all forthcoming M camera caters for R lenses. Please provide some technical description that could be helpful to others in pursuing this. Here is Elmarit R 19mm V2 converted to Nikon F mount via Laitex adaptor. Lens is shown on film body, it works equally well on digital but looks & focuses better on 1970s SLR. Welcome, dear visitor! This particular conversion involved some invasive surgery to shave of part of the metal surrounding rear optical element. This was required to allow SLR mirror to clear the rear of the lens. After applying black matt paint to exposed metal modification is not noticeable and there is no degradation of performance. Flange removal is fully reversible. Leitax products are well established and known in conversion community. Due to generous registry distance of 47mm Leica R lenses are well suited for many current digital platforms - registry is distance between lens flange and film or sensor plane. Guest JMF Posted December 26, 2012 Share #2 Posted December 26, 2012 Hi, this is merely stacking together 2 adapters and quite fun actually, a tad tricky to use with a 150 mm ! ... and supporting the whole weight with the lens in hand, no stress on the body & M mount... luigi bertolotti Posted February 17, 2013 Share #5 Posted February 17, 2013 Really an odd adapter : made to mount Zeiss Contarex lenses on Leica M : Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Contarex lenses had NOT a f stop ring on the lens' barrel... the (automatic) diaphragm closure was activated by a dial knob on the camera body, coupled to the lens via an interlocking mechanism into the bayonet mount (one of the many odd and absurdly complicated features of the Contarex, which led to the failure of this wonderful system) The adapter solves this issue with a "presetting" ring which must be set at lens' max aperture (1,4 to 5,6) before setting the f stop at the desired aperture, through the dented ring which is part of the adapter. No RF coupling, of course, which for few lenses isn't a great issue...
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! gyoung Posted February 17, 2013 Share #6 Posted February 17, 2013 That is nice, and ironic that a lovely lens intended for a ridiculously overcomplicated camera body is useful on one of the simplest cameras (mechanically) Gerry
