Primative Posted December 11, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just traded a Canon 5Dc for a D-lux 5. I ended up with a bunch of accessories, so a good trade for me considering I have owned about every (film) Leica from model A to R7. I did not think I would be in possesion of a Leica again. Very pleased so far. I have the EVF and grip. I do need a good case that will accomidate the grip mounted; any suggestions? Will a Canon 580EXII flash fire on this little jewel? I can't get over how small the camera is. Seems like a toy after using DSLR's for so long now! Any "beware" issues or hints for a guy getting into Leica digitals? Thanks for any comments you may offer.

wda Posted December 11, 2012 Share #3 Posted December 11, 2012 Primative, Welcome to the forum! That is some exchange; a full-frame digital SLR for a small sensor compact camera. The results probably won't compare in pure resolution terms, but that will be balanced by the vastly more usable and easily transported little Leica. I have the same model and use it mainly for family social use at which it excels. While it is usable at higher ISOs, it performs best at base ISO. My everyday setting is Av at maximum aperture. If possible I will use a table tripod in low-light rather than use flash; but that is a practice emanating from my use of Leica M cameras with fine prime lenses. Also, I much prefer the ambient lighting which I find much more memorable and realistic. Enjoy your D-Lux 5.
Primative Posted December 12, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted December 12, 2012 Thanks for the replies. I still have a Canon 7D and a bunch of white tele's, so not totally away from the big guns. I took it out for a few test shots today, and for the size, I am pleased with the initial shots. I really like the macro results! Is there a recommended case, or one that will work with the grip in place?

farnz Posted December 12, 2012 Share #6 Posted December 12, 2012 Welcome to the forum, Primative, and congratulations on your DL5. I don't use a grip on my DL5 so it fits snuggly into the lovely tan leather DL4 case (the DL5 leather case is not so appealing to me) so I regret that I can't help you. Pete.
