robsteve Posted March 21, 2007 Share #21 Posted March 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here is 100% of the bike. What IR issues are there? I don't see any maybe except the cap. The sleeves of the Jacket are showing it too. There is also a hint of it in the backpack.
Advertisement Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Hi robsteve, Take a look here M8 and Distagon 15mm. Leica falls short?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 21, 2007 Share #22 Posted March 21, 2007 Cyan corners? Simple fix post process The point being when 1.10 comes out with leica coded lenses is you won't have to do this in post processing, it will be done through the camera. This eliminates a big step in post and you have to have another program to do it like Pano or create actions in PS. Leica does not want anyone to have to do this in post they want it out of the camera without the cyan issues and so do I. When your doing hundreds of images this is not a task i want to be doing at all and honestly if it is not in 1.10 than leica will have some bigger issues of people staying with leica. There's no secret about that, we are all just buying time right now with Pano Tools and PS actions.
tom0511 Posted March 21, 2007 Share #23 Posted March 21, 2007 I think the shots are rather good. Things seem very sharp across the frame. I still think it is an incredible lens, and these shots underscore more of what it can do. The downsides are the cost, lack of rangefinder coupling, and unknown about coding. (Guy, one could fill over the screw area with a bit of white paint and then add any black bars as needed. Not terribly elegant, but it would do the job.) From what little has been posted by folks from this lens, it appears to hold its own quite well against the WATE, and it is a stop faster, if that really matters at 15mm. LJ The f2.8 would be much more usefull if thelens was range finder coupled
tom0511 Posted March 21, 2007 Share #24 Posted March 21, 2007 Personally I tend to think thatthe Zeiss 15mm is one of the objects with a high "I want it"-factor, but with a very low "I can justify it"-factor. Reason? For example I compared the Leica/Zeiss R 15/3.5with dmr to M8+cv15mm, and the cv15 does surprizingly good. I see it like that: cv15: -very good prize -nice small size-so you often bring it with you -posinility to fit an IR-filter easily -very good performance Tri: -range finder coupling which allows to use the lens reliable also at f4.0 and smaller distances (big plus IMO) -coding - specially for a wide/ultra wide this makes really sense -3 focal length, and still not too big Zeiss: -it might be a little bit better in an optical way (is it?) -it is f2.8 - but how often do you need f2.8 in such a lens? can you use f2.8 at shorter distances (in rooms) if you have no rangefinder coupling? Regarding the difference in quality I would liek to mention one experience: when I compared my normal Tri-E. to my primes I could see differences in optical performance. I have had some occasions, where I used both lenses, Tri-Elmar at 50mm and also the 50/1.4asph. Pretty hard for me to tell which images were made with the prime and which were made with the TE. I would be verya interested to see a direct comparison between the Zeiss15 and WATE and CV15. There should be a very clear difference in optical performance to justify the Zeiss15mm, keeping in mind the high price, weight, and non exisiting range finder coupling, and non existing coding. Englander Posted March 21, 2007 Share #25 Posted March 21, 2007 Sorry, I do not understand. Are all three pictures you posted from the Zeiss or is this a Zeiss/WATE comparison. If it is a comparison, could you explain it to me? Otherwise, I guess it is a celebration of the unquestioned excellence of the Zeiss? Thank you, Joe
pelikan1931 Posted March 23, 2007 Share #26 Posted March 23, 2007 i think Zeiss is no longer producing the 15mm any longer? they have yet produced the 85 sonnar as promised, perhaps they want to move the whole production line to Japan? whatever its merits, it is the only German made Zeiss ZM lens. sean_reid Posted March 23, 2007 Share #28 Posted March 23, 2007 I would still love to see a CV15, Zeiss 15, Leica 16 shoot-out. Hopefully, someone will be able to do one soon. I know Sean has it on his radar. Having used both the Zeiss 15 and the Leica 15 in R format and the CV15 on the M8, my guess is that the Zeiss is probably very formidable. Kurt I'll start that testing in early April so long as all the needed lenses arrive. My review sample of the WATE was delayed so I wasn't able to test it before I left. The set will be CV 12, CV 15, Zeiss 15 and WATE. Cheers, Sean

charlesphoto99 Posted March 23, 2007 Share #30 Posted March 23, 2007 Anyone know the word on the Zeiss 18mm f4 M? I know it was announced ages ago and is on their site, but no word on when it'll actually be out. To me that seems like an ideal lens if the price point is "reasonable". I rarely used my 21 in film much prefering the 24mm as max wide all around lens. This focal length and speed really seems like a lens Leica should be putting out at say a $2000 price point teamed up with a finder for $250 more (and many of us now have 24 finders going unused). It would be a hit like the 28 2.8 asph I think. The WATE is out of reach of most users.
ChrisC Posted March 23, 2007 Share #31 Posted March 23, 2007 Anyone know the word on the Zeiss 18mm f4 M?...... Charles - My e-mail from Zeiss dated 4 Dec. 2006 gave the expected release as May 2007, price unknown. Make of that information what you will. Whether it can be coded will be another matter. ................Chris
Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 23, 2007 Share #32 Posted March 23, 2007 Well if the WATE falls short i would certainly like to know where that is because that is NOT what I am finding and have many images to the contrary Welcome, dear visitor!
