carstenw Posted March 21, 2007 Share #22 Â Posted March 21, 2007 Sean, can you briefly desribe how it fits compared to the laser-sharp 75 Cron and still very sharp, but ephemeral 75 Lux?
wastrel Posted March 21, 2007 Share #23 Â Posted March 21, 2007 Karen, If you'd like to try the 75 Lux, I could loan one to you for a day or two -- some people love the lens (I'm in that camp) and some people are really put off by the size/weight/difficulty in focusing, so it might be worth trying first (I'm in DC as well). James Mitchell Posted March 21, 2007 Share #28 Â Posted March 21, 2007 She's right. No Leica dealers here in DC. Karen, consider the Nikon 85/2 in LTM. I have a chrome and a rare BP version. I love these for 35mm film and have just started using them with the M8. Great portrait lenses.
rpierce Posted March 21, 2007 Share #29 Â Posted March 21, 2007 One Leica dealer in the Washington DC area is Ace Photo in Ashburn, Va...they just moved from Sterling. They have a few items and can be worth checking with. Â Bob Pierce
mikelc Posted March 21, 2007 Share #30  Posted March 21, 2007 ..I'd check out sean's advice about the cv 75...because of his reviews i recently purchased 3 cv lenses, the 15, the 21 and the 28 1.9 and they are all outstanding...i also have the leica 35 cron and the 50 lux both of which i love but the cvs are up there with them ..and the 75 is only $300....definitely worth looking at  http://www.mikecetta.com

lars_bergquist Posted March 22, 2007 Share #33  Posted March 22, 2007 Yes the 75 lux is strong candidate - any non leica lenses anyone?  I have the C/V 75 but no Leica lens of that length, so I cannot compare them. The C/V is a very good lens however, actually better than the old Tele-Elmarits, though of course without that 'apo bite', which some seem to find too harsh. – The price of the C/V is such however that you can very well afford to experiment with it. Even if you decide to buy one of the larger and heavier Leica lenses later, you may well decide too keep the dainty little C/V as a pocketable or 'handbaggable' walkabout lens for informal occasions.  The old man from the Age of Vest Pocket Photography
Venkman Posted March 22, 2007 Share #34 Â Posted March 22, 2007 Dennis, Â that depends on the adapter you're using (CV lenses are mostly M39 mounts) - the 50/75 adapter would make most sense I guess
haika Posted March 22, 2007 Share #35  Posted March 22, 2007 Karen,  i second those who suggest the lux 75. i use the nikkor 85 1.4 on my d2x, and the 75 lux on the m8, and the results are very similar. true, the actual fov is different (100 vs 128), but the perspective is almost the same, the max opening is identical, so i get a depth of field similar to the nikon.  as for asph, well, the nikon 85s aren't, either. as a friend who understands more about technical stuff recently remarked: "asph is really only needed for wide angles; apo only makes sense from about 100mm onwards." although i am not sure i fully understand his technical point, when it comes to the lux, it has neither, falling neatly into the gap between wide and 100+, and in real-world photography, off the lens testers set-ups, its performance is great and i've always liked it.  servus, günter
tom0511 Posted March 22, 2007 Share #36 Â Posted March 22, 2007 Frienkly I like the 75 alot but for whatever reason do use 50mm more often for portrait/people shots with the M8. I have the 50/1.4asph and do like it but if I find a cheap 50/1.4 pre-asph one day I might get that lens. cheers, Tom
jobe Posted March 22, 2007 Share #37 Â Posted March 22, 2007 Hi Karen, There is another Leica dealer in the area. Service Photo in Baltimore. They also carry a large stock of Nikon equipment. They do not have a lot of Leica shelf stock. They are great to deal with. I have a 75 Summicron that you are welcome to try. I'm in DC on Tuesday afternoon 3/27 for a student's dissertation defense at GWU would be happy to let you have a gander at the lens. Eikonphoto Posted March 22, 2007 Author Share #38 Â Posted March 22, 2007 A good day for my bank account (for a change) Given that a used 75 lux just sold on ebay today for 2500+, I am going to give the CV a try. I have a 12 cv and 21 skopar, and am very impressed with both lenses (given the great price point). I used my 12mm & 21mm CV to photograph the airforce monument here in DC and I was very pleased. I may even post a couple (in the appropriate place) if I have time.
Eikonphoto Posted March 22, 2007 Author Share #39 Â Posted March 22, 2007 One thing I am not sure about. Being that it is a CV lens, how will that be effected once the IR filter is on it. Should I expect to suffer from cyan edging or is that only an issue for wider lenses?
Venkman Posted March 22, 2007 Share #40 Â Posted March 22, 2007 Karen, that's mainly an issue for 28 and wider.
