The Hologon is the lens, that actually inspired me, to re-try all the wide angle lenses, I never used much and have at least one of them always with me - my current user is the Super Elmar:

Since it is almost a symmetrical design, It should be better than most.

It is very good, if you have enough light to have enough speed so that there is not movement blur.

Here's a shot from my M Monochrom, and a 1966-vintage 90mm Tele-Elmarit version 1 'fat' lens. Time and again, I read that this lens is not worth bothering with, because it has to be stopped down if you want sharp images. I just don't find that to be the case. This was shot with the lens wide open, in harsh light.

The Tele-Elmarit 90mm version 1 'fat' lens is tiny - even smaller than the 50mm Summilux ASPH, beautifully engineered, and can be purchased for buttons (in Leica terms). It's a veritable bargain.

Best wishes all,

Colin

What a wonderful shot! :)

Are there any pictures Hologon vs. Wate at 16mm?

Are there any pictures Hologon vs. Wate at 16mm?

I have the cv12 and the 18 super elmar. I use the hologon without the filter and so, it vignettes a lot more. It is also very slow (f8), the 18se is really good and best for color, the 12cv has to be used more carefully because it is more extreme (the hologon is not so much since the borders are generally darker and count less).

I guess the wate will be better for color (at least with a digital sensor) with less vignetting and faster. The hologon has less distortion. I would think that the corners are less problematic with the hologon since they count less.

I hope this helps a bit.
