Leica M4-2 Null series

Never heard of unnumbered M4-2 ... but it was the first M with s/n engraved on the hotshoe, and given the strange facts that occurred to many parts inside the Ontario factory just before and after its sale to Hughes, I wouldn't be surprised if someone tries to sell some unnumbered M4-2...

The first batch of 100 M4-2 has a someway complex story (partially made in Portugal ? I don't remember exactly the question...) but I think they were anyway numbered...

Uhm... s/n is a bit odd (not within a batch of M4-2s) but other M4-2s are known around that number (see Wiki section) : defining it as a "null series" is misleading... but typical of THAT seller.... ;)

Imho, half of the price asked could be even too much... see here a similar (not IDENTICAL) item, same "uncommon" numbering : WestLicht Photographica Auction : the variants about the writings ("made in Canada" "Canada" "made by Leitz Canada") are known and documented, and hard to justify a patent of "rarity".

# 1469 20x makes it a pretty early one from 1977. The number actually belongs to an R3 olive-series

according to LANEY. But they mixed these numbers a lot in the old days.

The red LEITZ-dot disappeared later on, the regular M4-2 didn´t have it. Perhaps that´s why

some call it the "Null Series".

GEORG
