fotografr Posted March 20, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Perhaps this has been addressed already and I haven't seen the thread, but does anyone have an explanation for this ghosting around the white letters? It has also shown up in several other shots. This was done with the Nocti while I was checking focus on the M8.
Advertisement Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Hi fotografr, Take a look here M8 Ghost Image. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
larry Posted March 20, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 20, 2007 Brent, Are these letters white or red? The reason I ask is that ghosting around anything red is pretty common without the IR-cutoff filter. Maybe there's a connection here. Larry
Jamie Roberts Posted March 20, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 20, 2007 Brent-- Shot at f1? Maybe the lens is front focussing slightly?
ho_co Posted March 20, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 20, 2007 Are you using IR-cut filter? If not, some of the defocused IR might be causing the halo. --HC
fotografr Posted March 20, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted March 20, 2007 I did shoot this at F1, and without the IR filter (Leica havn't sent it yet). It was, however, shot as a b&w jpeg, so I would have thought the lack of a filter would have no effect. The lettering is white. I am noticing that the design just below the word, "Digital," doesn't have the ghosting. Probably this means there is some frontfocusing going on, since I was focusing on the word, "Promaster." jaapv Posted March 20, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 20, 2007 I'm convinced this is IR. IR will cast an out of focus overlay in unpredictable places, depending on the intensity if the IR light, producing just this effect - especially visible in Black and White shots.
