Capture 1 Problem

Hi,

A bit of help with C1(LE) would be appreciated. I have noticed recently that in the focus tab Noise Suppression is at 4 - far right. I don't want any Noise Suppression so I changed this in the Preferences - Process Settings to Low - far left. But this seems to have no effect. Every new file shows Full Noise Suppression so I have to remember to move the slider to the left for every image I process. I'm sure this wasn't the case before. The other thing I have noticed is that the sort order of files is now "broken" - I have "Sort by Capture date" selected but the sort order does not follow the file dates (It does in other viewing programmes such as Bridge or iView so there is nothing wrong with the date stamps on the files.)

Any help?

Thanks

Keith,

I'm new to C1, and the noise suppression setting has been irritating me as well. I cant help you with setting the default (I havnt tried that myself yet!) but what I can suggest is selecting all files (Ctr-A on a PC) then moving the noise setting, then click the 'apply to whole selection'.

If you do this as soon as you save a days shoot, then you shouldnt need to change each file individually.

Guy & Keith,

I am also having some problems with C1/LE. Primarily a random 'soting' of files from different shoots on the one card when downloaded. Very irritatating when it comes to processing and allocating files to a shoot.

I have downloaded C1 Pro on a 30 day trial and it seems to be be much better in handling. I suspect, like other software vendors, that Phase One deliberately 'scramble' or omit certain functions to coerce you to upgrade. Despite the pitifully poor help files with C1 I think I will commit to the C1 Pro version because it is better in a few areas that are important to me. unfortunately that involves paying for a lot of features that are useless to an M8 user, such as the all the digital back features for which it was probably designed. Screwed again but resigned to it.

1. I have both banding and noise suppression set to low and they stay that way in my copy of LE.

2. Every now and then I find the files are in a funny order and then I notice that I have left the jpg's in the same directory with the dng's. C1 will display jpg's but won't operate on them. I usually keep them in a separate directory.

Do you have jpg's mixed with your dng's. If so, the jpg's sort first, then the dng's.

Try deleting the active collection ( this should not delete the files ) go to preferences - Cache tab - empty your cache, change the process settings to your requirements and then exit the program. You must close the program any time you alter your process preference settings !

Capture one will memorise the settings for each folder. Once you have viewed a folder changing preferences will not have any effect on the images in the folder. You then have to change the files directly.

So before you view a folder full of images check your settings, change if necessary and restart the program if you do change anything. Now view the folder and C1 will always call up those settings for that folder.

A bit long winded I know but it works for me... ( although I do use C1 pro)

regards

Jim

I'd love it if it didn't fill up my HD with duplicate files and "previews"... :o

Andy,

Go to preferences, preview cache tab: there is a box [ Automatically clean up the preview cache]

Here you can set the cache to clear every time you close C1 or select how many days before it clears.

You may find yours is set to never !

Thanks guys for your responses.

Bill, I don't shoot jpegs. Only RAW with no jpegs, so that is my problem in this case, but a point worth remembering ahyway.

James, I have followed your step by step advice and modified my setting, so I will see what happens next time I have a mixed shoot.

Guy, I am intrigued by the prospect of C1/LE 4. I would be very happy if it measured up much better than currently. I do, however, like to be able to scale my output flexibly from my RAW processor, which C1 Pro allows, and the old RawShooter premium, which I still use with a number of cameras. I suspect that C1/LE 4 will not allow this as being part of the Pro version. Maybe I will let the PRO trial time out and wait a bit.

Thanks again to members for their incisive input. This beats going to school anyday.

As Guy would say, LOL:D

Unfortunately, my Capture One doesn't have a "Previews cache" tab...

C1 pro upgrade from C1LE seems very expensive at €429 compared with Aperture, Lightroom or Lightzone full programmes or is it a case you gets what you pays for?
