NikonJeff Posted November 24, 2012 Share #1 Posted November 24, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Excited and nervous at the same time... I held an X1 briefly when I was in New York City back in October and have been itching to buy one since. Finally found one on eBay from Canada that was just purchased as a demo from Henry's - got it for under $1000 in theory with the full warranty as it was just bought a couple weeks ago and is unregistered. Trying to limit the bulk of the camera and the addition of farkles as we call them in BMW Motorcycle land

NikonJeff Posted November 28, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted November 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well done! Anticipation is half the excitement. I know... It has apparently cleared customs in New York so by the end of the week it should be in my hands!!! I'm holding off on any accessories except a screen protector. Yesterday Adorama had the Olympus VF2 on sale for $169.00 and I was so tempted to grab it...
earleygallery Posted November 28, 2012 Share #8 Posted November 28, 2012 Don't, you can't use it on the X1!

Rather get the VF1 optical viewfinder - the X1 has a fixed focal length, so you probably just need a viewfinder for composing (if you set the focus to auto)
NikonJeff Posted November 28, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted November 28, 2012 Don't, you can't use it on the X1! I swear that I've read that the Olympus VF2 and the Leica EVF-2 are essentially the same and therefore interchangeable on the X1 & X2???

Only on the X2. The X1 doesn't have a port under the hotshoe for it. It only uses an Optical Viewfinder.

NikonJeff Posted December 1, 2012 Author Share #13 Posted December 1, 2012 The X1 just arrived today - what a beautiful piece of gear! It reminds me of my grandfather's IIIa that I have. Small and easy to use - set to high contrast B&W and have started shooting some stuff. This is gonna be a fun camera to keep with me everywhere I go! NikonJeff Posted December 1, 2012 Author Share #15 Posted December 1, 2012 Glad you're enjoying it! Did you get the black or the silver version? I got the black version of the X1. It was a store demo so it has the full 2 year warranty, all the bits and pieces it was supposed to come with as well. Next step is to find a nice half case that doesn't bulk it up too much. I did install a Giottos screen protector on it as soon as it came out of the box...
kamuishirou1999 Posted December 1, 2012 Share #16 Posted December 1, 2012 Very nice! For half-cases, you have plenty options. Artisan & Artist, Gariz, Jnk, Luigi, etc. all have one for the X1. Personally, I keep mine w/o a half-case on, but my M has a Mr. Zhou who used to have one for the X1 but can't seem to find it anymore. You can just go on eBay and search half-cases for the X1 to get ideas and buy elsewhere if you're not big on buying stuff on eBay.

NikonJeff Posted January 28, 2013 Author Share #18 Posted January 28, 2013 I am loving this camera! So small and compact.. Am I the only one that is having (or had) a hard time deciding between the Leica 36mm and Voigtlander 35mm external viewfinders??? I like the look of the square Leica OVF but the Voigtlander is metal and about 1/2 the cost... I've looked at the VF posts here and am no closer to an educated decision... Thoughts? Garth B Posted January 29, 2013 Share #19 Posted January 29, 2013 I know the feeling. I recently purchased an X2 and am delighted with it. I wanted an optical viewfinder too and purchased the Voigtlander opt viewfinder from B&H. It's a very nice piece but unfortunately the bright line frame was slightly tilted to the right. I returned it for an exchange and was disappointed that the second one had the same problem. B&H was great about refunding my money on the second return. I still wanted the Voigtlander so I placed an order with Stephen at Camerquest. I explained my concern about the frame line tilt and asked to please check it before shipping. Got it and no problem. Love the viewfinder. I wear glasses and have no problem with it. And it looks great! Hope this helps.
NikonJeff Posted January 31, 2013 Author Share #20 Posted January 31, 2013 I found a mint Leica 36mm OVF on eBay and grabbed it for $185.00 which just arrived today. This weekend I'll have a chance to play around with it.
