lm_user Posted November 21, 2012 Share #2 Posted November 21, 2012 Have you considered a X2?
Lee Martin Posted November 21, 2012 Share #3 Posted November 21, 2012 Having looked at the link from your website there are some excellent photographs on there, which clearly show that you are an experienced photographer. Given the range of your interests, IMHO you may find the focal length of the D-Lux's a bit restrictive . Some great pictures and you've been to some beautiful places. Nortonski Posted November 22, 2012 Share #5 Posted November 22, 2012 Thanks Lee.................I just really want to have something that I can put in my pocket 24/7 ( I have an iPhone already but it doesnt have Leica writen on it):D If its something you want to put in your pocket, the D-Lux it is, it'll give you some zoom over that of the X2, is considerably smaller than the V-Lux (which will NOT fit in your pocket) & has a larger sensor than the V-Lux. I looked at all 3 & the D-Lux won out overall for myself. I paired it with the Panasonic EVF (same as the EV3 but half the price). I travel constantly with work & sure, I'd like to take my DSLR & lenses everywhere, but I can't. I'm loving it!

Lee Martin Posted November 22, 2012 Share #9 Posted November 22, 2012 Think there might be some confusion between the V lux 4 and the V Lux 40 as shown on the Leica website . The 4 is a lot bigger the "travel" compact 40 not a lot bigger. I'm a great fanof my D Lx 4 but don't know if I'd pay the lot of extra money over the Panasonic equivalent unless you want the software and extended warranty. Amazon are selling the Panasonic D-Lux 5 equivalent very cheaply !

Lee Martin Posted November 22, 2012 Share #11 Posted November 22, 2012 Good Point , well presented !! Personally I'd pay the extra but common sense might say to the contrary.

It is smaller than the D-Lux, much better zoom but was too slow to focus for myself, I was after the larger sensor & lense combination with the ability to add the EVF. But looking at the D-Lux its not really a camera that you can put in your jeans pocket and take with you 24/7 like what the Lux 400 looks like..............remembering that 12/7 I will have a M9 around my neck:)
ajthornbury Posted November 22, 2012 Share #14 Posted November 22, 2012 I had a v-lux20, similar in body size, but found the lack of viewfinder a problem in sunlight. Also the long zoom seemed to operate quite fast and was not smooth. I exchanged it for a D-lux5, whilst slightly larger it still fits in my pocket. I also purchased the Panasonic viewfinder to go with it. I much prefer the D-Lux, and sorry I didn't get one to start with. The extra for a Leica over a Panasonic version of the camera is worth it, it has a longer Guarntee and also comes with Lightroom.

Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted November 22, 2012 Share #16 Posted November 22, 2012 D-Lux 5 the best !!! kmhb How can the 5 be better than the 6 thats like saying windows is better than Apple:eek:
Digitom Posted November 23, 2012 Share #17 Posted November 23, 2012 My recommendation: Buy D-Lux 5 with electronic viewfinder and hand grip (of you have big hands). Later, if you think the zoom of D-Lux 5 is really not enough, uy a used V-Lux 30 for situations you need zoom..
Digitom Posted November 23, 2012 Share #18 Posted November 23, 2012 How can the 5 be better than the 6 thats like saying windows is better than Apple:eek: 1st: Windows IS better then apple 2nd: D-Lux 6 is slightly bigger then D-Lux 5, the sensor is smaller. All supplements like handgrip, protector, does not fit. But: Of course there are advantages of No. 6: f1.4, inbuilt ND Filter, manual aperture ring, evf is 1.4 million pix resolution. Finally the pro and con is - for me - 1:1 and so I would not upgrade from 5 to 6. But having 4 or 3, I would.
