Thought I would say hello and introduce myself!

Finally taken the plunge into Leica after a long journey:

First SLR melted when left on the car dashboard in Greece - I was 8 years old.

Olympus XA2

Pentax SLR pre-digital

Sony Cybershot post film era (lured by the instant gratification)

Reborn with a Canon 400D

Matured with a Canon 40D

Filled my bag with heavy hardware and a Canon 5DII

Discovered freedom with a Fuji X100.........

And now have managed to secure a nice M8.2 to test the Rangefinder waters.

After much heartfelt deliberation I have purchased a used 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit ASPH lens (in preference to the 35mm f/2) as my first lens.

Hopefully both items will be delivered by the weekend...

Regards to all,

James

Looking at the images posted on here I suspect it will be a while before I dare post!

The little Fuji X100 has really made me think so much more about my photography compared to how I was (still am, I guess) as a Canonista and I am really looking forward to seeing what I can achieve with the M8 and Elmarit.

Welcome to the forum, James. I hope you won't fall into the trap of 'seeing' your photos through others' eyes. Just post what you like because there's a better than even chance that others will like it too. I look forward to seeing some of your photos when you feel ready.:)

Both M8.2 and 28mm 2.8 Elmarit-M ASPH lens arrived this week and I today was the first time I have had to give them a quick run out.

Very lucky with the M8.2 ebay purchase - perfect condition (all documentation supplied), only 2800 actuations and the original protective film to the baseplate is still attached!

Lens was from a dealer and is in mint condition.

Unfortunately its overcast and foggy here in the UK so apologies for my first pic upload being a bit grim!

First time with a rangefinder but not so dissimilar to my old Pentax film SLR from a while back.

28mm lens perfect for out doors but not (as yet) completely convinced that I would not perhaps have been better with the 35mm Cron as a single lens setup.....

Everything everyone has said about the M8 (good and bad) would appear to be true....

Thanks Georg,

I confess that I have swapped the 28 for a 35mm Cron. Loved the 28 outside in the open but I really needed a lens I can could use as an all rounder at this stage. The 35 will allow me to "stick with one lens" for a few months and develop my Leica skills accordingly. With the 28 I was longing to do some portraiture/shallow DOF (within the 35mm limitations of the FF 46mm equivalent) and found myself already looking to see what I could sell of my Canon stock in order to fund!

There will be time later to add, possibly both a Zeiss 28mm 2.8 ZM (or possibly even wider) and a Voigtlander 75mm 1.8.....

As is likely the 35mm would be on the camera most of the time so decided this was where I wanted to invest in the Leica glass.

And no I am definitely not basing current lens purchases on a possible upgrade to the M9!

99% of the year ?

the good news is B&W can step in to make beautiful tones when the colours don't show up ....

The M8.2 is particularly sharp and makes excellent B&W conversions. Hope you are using Lightroom ;)

Welcome, James.

I agree that a 35mm lens makes more sense in a one-lens set-up. Why not add a 75mm Summarit to your wish-list? That lens works extremely well with the 35 in a two-lens kit and is excellent in its own right.

I like your first picture which is nicely composed and captures an unavoidable season of the year. Mist can be marvellous for pictorialists. :)
