La Morte Posted November 12, 2012 Share #1  Posted November 12, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Recently I bought the 90mm Summarit and I just love this guy! I had to chose between the Summarit and its brother which has F2. I went for the Summarit because of it being much smaller than the other, - and smaller was one of the main reasons I started with the M rig. That said, I never new about the absolute magic I will get with the lenses. Anyway, the Sumarit, for the size and price is the best I could do. At first I thought I don't use this length so much, so I don't want a bulky lens, but now I find myself using it more and more. The image is pin-sharp and the bokeh is very good as well. I give you one example of the past week-end. See more on what I did so far with this lens here;  [url=http://streamlightphotography.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-leica-m9-90mm-summarit-and-finch.  http://streamlightphotography.blogspot.com/2012/10/leica-m9-90-mm-summarit-at-races.  http://streamlightphotography.blogspot.com/2012/10/leica-m9-90-mm-summarit-at-races.html  Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Hi La Morte, Take a look here Once again I am in awe of the 90mm Summarit. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
philipus Posted November 12, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted November 12, 2012 Excellent timing Danni. Well done. Â It is likely just my monitor here at work, but many of the OOF highlight "rings" have a slight greenish edge. Like I said, probably just my monitor but I wanted note it. jdlaing Posted November 12, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted November 12, 2012 I just got one too and so far I like it a lot. I didn't get a hood with it. Is the hood necessary?
Messsucherkamera Posted November 12, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted November 12, 2012 I always use a lens hood. They improve contrast and color saturation by controlling stray light that would otherwise enter the lens at random angles, reducing contrast. Lens hoods also provide a degree of protection to the front element of the lens. Â An alternative to the Leica lens hood are the high quality lens hoods made by B+W and sold by B&H photo and other camera retailers. I have A B+W hood and step ring for my 50/1.4 which provides more protection for the front element than the built in lens hood does. Â It's a good solution and is probably less costly than the official Leica lens hood, although I haven't compared prices.
jaapv Posted November 12, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted November 12, 2012 The rings are a bit of chromatic aberration and can easily be removed with the defringe tool of your raw processor. Nice Weaverbird. Did his nest win a lady?
akiralx Posted November 13, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted November 13, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, great lens. I have all four Summarits and am getting used to the 90 currently: Â Â Â A nearby dealer had a used 90 Summicron APO at a good price which I shot in the store - but when viewing the images later I thought 'what am I gaining in real world photography?' La Morte Posted November 13, 2012 Author Share #8 Â Posted November 13, 2012 Nice Weaverbird. Did his nest win a lady? Jaap, - this guy is ether the busiest or horniest finch I ever saw. All year long, winter and summer he builds the nest's and she breaks them down! Sometimes twice a day?! If I can have just a bit of his optimism... Guest MarcRF Posted November 14, 2012 Share #9  Posted November 14, 2012 been looking for a 90mm and I found it. now my holy trinity is complete and I can say I've settled. summarit on it's way to me. didnt buy the lenshood (yet), probably never will. said to be resistant to flare and I like the compact size over the dslr like length with a hood  thanks for the topic
philipus Posted November 14, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted November 14, 2012 The rings are a bit of chromatic aberration and can easily be removed with the defringe tool of your raw processor. Â Very true, Jaap, it's an easy operation. I get this with some of my EF lenses (from the cheapest to the most expensive Ls). Still, it is a "feature" I don't particularly desire in a lens. I do realise it is partly situation-dependent as well.

kokoshawnuff Posted November 26, 2012 Share #12 Â Posted November 26, 2012 Nice photo and congrats on the lens. I had it for a while and loved it, I replaced it with the MEM for the smaller size...but if I needed the speed I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy another Summarit
rramesh Posted November 26, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted November 26, 2012 MarcRF, couldn't you use the Contax GG-3 hood on the Summarit 90? You could get a set of GG-1, GG-2 and GG-3 on eBay (in black and silver) quite easily.

You could get a set of GG-1, GG-2 and GG-3 on eBay (in black and silver) quite easily. Â had a M9 on loan and the leica dealer picked it up on saturday. he had a 90 summarit hood with him for me to test... lets say he didnt have to carry it any further. I'm more used to plastic thingy hoods but that thing is rock solid and not even half as big as I imagined. why doesnt leica produce these beautiful hoods for other lenses too?! only thing missing is a final snap to fix it in place but otherwise that hood is perfect.
