masjah Posted March 20, 2013 Author Share #61 Posted March 20, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bump. Steve, I found that too - it seems to be the thing with Whitby B&Bs. Glad you got in somewhere though, and it's well worth the extra night if you can run to it. Marilyn and I are arriving on Friday and staying two nights, going home on Sunday. We can arrange to meet up if you like.
Advertisement Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Hi masjah, Take a look here Second Seaside Challenge (Whitby UK) Saturday 13/4/13 . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted March 20, 2013 Share #62 Posted March 20, 2013 Hotels in the Lake District have the same policy. Impossible to get just a Saturday night.
masjah Posted March 20, 2013 Author Share #63 Posted March 20, 2013 We could perhaps organise a group dinner on Saturday night. We didn't do that at Brighton, because, I suspect, it was do-able in a day for lots of south or England participants. But I guess more people will be actually staying over as it's the distant frozen north. Please reply fairly soon if you would be interested, so I can have some idea of numbers and try to book something.
andybarton Posted March 20, 2013 Share #64 Posted March 20, 2013 Sorry, John - no-can-do the Saturday night. We are having to stay "off-campus" and therefore leaving Whitby late pm.
bill Posted March 22, 2013 Share #65 Posted March 22, 2013 Sadly, I am out of this one. I shall be in Lisbon on the Sunday and the logistics just don't work. Have a great time, chaps. Regards, Bill

ejd Posted March 23, 2013 Share #68 Posted March 23, 2013 I'm hoping to make it to Whitby on the 13th. It involves visiting family near Wakefield on the way there and back. I'll try to stay in or near Whitby on Sat night and would be happy to join any who are there in the evening for drinks or dinner. All the best, John
masjah Posted March 29, 2013 Author Share #69 Posted March 29, 2013 BUMP. For those who are staying over in Whitby on Saturday night (including Marilyn and myself, can I remind you all that I'm hoping to be able to arrange for us to have a meal together on Saturday evening, but I will need to be able to firm up on numbers reasonably soon - so please could you let me know if you are interested. So far there's Marilyn and myself, John (ejd), DES. Andy and Ann can't make the evening dinner as they are staying out of town. I know Steve plus Nick and Ripon have said they are staying over on Saturday night; are you all also game for a meal in the evening? Please could anyone else who is planning to take part on Saturday let me know if they are staying over, and whether they would like to join in? I've got a place in mind, but clearly I'll need numbers for them.

masjah Posted April 3, 2013 Author Share #74 Posted April 3, 2013 I've booked us a table for a meal on Saturday evening at 7.30 pm at: The Vinyard Silver Street Whitby YO21 3BU Silver street is parallel to Skinner Street, where we are meeting up for lunch at The Granby pub at 12 noon. You can see their menu at their website www.vinyardwhitby.co.uk. They didn't ask me for choices in advance, so I'm presuming they can cope! I'll post again if they decide subsequently that they would like advance notice, so perhaps you all might to look at their menu anyway. So far as I can see, participants at the dinner will be: John & Marilyn Howarth Steve Unsworth ejd (John) Nick & Ripon de Marco DES Rod & Lynn Hutchinson PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP IF I HAVE INADVERTANTLY MISSED ANYBODY OR IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COME. THE PRESENT BOOKING IS FOR NINE, BUT I THINK THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO COPE WITH THE ODD ONE OR TWO MORE. In addition Andy & Ann (Barton) are coming to the challenge, but are not able to stay for the Saturday dinner, as they are staying over somewhat out of town. Looking forward very much to seeing friends old and new.
farnz Posted April 3, 2013 Share #75 Posted April 3, 2013 Regrettably I've had to pull out owing to another commitment and I'm envious of you all but I wish you an enjoyable and successful Seaside Challenge. And I hope the weather is kind to you. Pete.
hutchinson14 Posted April 4, 2013 Share #76 Posted April 4, 2013 Hi thanks for telling us where you have booked for Saturday evening dinner. Having looked at the menu I am sorry but we are going to withdraw because non of the main courses are to our taste.

masjah Posted April 11, 2013 Author Share #78 Posted April 11, 2013 I'll leave the reservation at 9 people for now, in case anyone else wants to join us at short notice. We are at 6 people for the evening meal on Saturday, namely myself and Marilyn, Nick and Ripon, Steve, and Des, so I've now firmed-up this number with The Vinyard. We've got eleven people in all coming on Saturday, namely the above, plus Andy and Ann, Rod and Lynn and John D. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Nick De Marco Posted April 14, 2013 Share #80 Posted April 14, 2013 We are just on the train back from York to London from what was a delightful trip up North Very lucky with the weather, yesterday in Whitby, during our challenge, was beautiful - and what a great location for photography. Ripon and I had a great time. Many thanks to John for organising, and to all our Northern friends for making us 2 southerners feel most welcomed. I shall post some photos of us in the pub/restaurant in the next few days. Nick
