j. borger Posted March 21, 2007 Share #21 Â Posted March 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now my next question how does the current 50 lux aspherical compare to the previous 50 lux? I have found a few pre aspherical 50 luxs for around $1500. They are different lenses .. with completely different fingerprint ..... The asph is "better" in contrast and sharpness .. better close-up and wide open... BUT .. the 50 lux pre-asph is of unique character (with an old leica fingerprint)... especialy beautiful for B&W and portraits... do a search on flickr for samples of both lenses and see what you like! Welcome to the Leicaworld .... where "better and worse" are not the sole criteria for selecting a lens!! Â BTW .. $1500 for a 50 pre-asph lux must be last stock of new lenses and is too much....... you should be able to find a mint copy somewhere for around $ 1000,-- Â Good luck with your decision! colorflow Posted March 22, 2007 Share #23 Â Posted March 22, 2007 eBay would be a good source if you have the patience and a good nose. I've gotten most my older lenses there. Have had good luck with eBay so far. No problem with Leica gear at all. Did return some Nikon lenses for "not as described" and received money back. losta Posted March 22, 2007 Author Share #24 Â Posted March 22, 2007 I'm watching and have watched several on ebay but they have been going for a bit more, how long has it been taking for Leica to send a "common" lens like this to the states with the 30% off? leicabug Posted March 22, 2007 Share #25 Â Posted March 22, 2007 I would try to get 28/2.8, 75/2, 50/1.4 or WATE for 30% discount because these are difficult to get in the used market. The rest on the list are easier to get as s/h since they have been out for a while.

I am sitting here with the form in hand and have my original receipts and Leica paperwork with my credit card info filled out and signed in front of me. I'm about to tick off the 50 summilux chrome. Â One more question since this now has to travel to Germany with my original receipts what method of delivery are people using, fedex, USPS global? Thanks again. Thanks again.   Lisa, Call me foolish, but I just popped the envelope into the mail with an international postage stamp ($0.85 or so) and it got there without a hitch. Leica returns your originals with their confirmation letter that the order has been placed via registered mail (signature required). It took about 2 weeks or so to get that confirmation letter from them, but I still have not received my Noctilux. It will be billed and shipped from Leica NJ for stateside folks.  LJ
marknorton Posted March 22, 2007 Share #28 Â Posted March 22, 2007 It's only a piece of paper. Take a photo-copy of what you're sending and put it in the mail. You're sending to Germany, not the moon.
thpeters Posted March 22, 2007 Share #29 Â Posted March 22, 2007 Lisa, Â Have you try Camtec Photo in Montreal, Canada? Ask for Jean, he is very good in giving you advise and helping you. He was to me very useful. Â Theo
Bill W Posted March 22, 2007 Share #30 Â Posted March 22, 2007 I went for the Noctilux simply because it such a good deal. I kept chinging my mind and just x'd the form and mailed it. I figured I can always sell it. Everytime I read a thread about a particular lens and look at the attached photo's I immediatley want one of those. What I really need is the 35 lux. I have the 35 cron and will update it as soon as I get the two freebies. I will probably sell it to get the 35 lux.

Yes, that happens to me too. Good thing I got the noctilux over a year ago for only about $2100, my best investment yet! Other wise that is what I would order. scjohn Posted March 23, 2007 Share #32 Â Posted March 23, 2007 I was SO torn. The fact is that I really didn't "need" a new lens. I have a 21/2.8, 35/1.4, 50/1.4 and 90/2 and was happy with that set and an M7. All of the lenses I considered with the M8 would just duplicate pretty much what I had with my M7 line up. (The 28 giving a FOV comparable with the crop factor to the 35 and the 75 comparable to the 90. Of course I have always dreamed of a nocti (even with the 50/1.4 asph). Seriously, who hasn't? Â I ordered the 28 2.0 but just called to change to the Nocti. With the newest price increase this is the chance. Live the dream now or "forgetaboutit." As some have mentioned, with the price increase its really about a 50% discount on a lens I don't really "need" and could never justify buying but for the discount.
