I hope everything work out - remember you can decide on the day whether to participate or not.

Then again you could just sit in the cafe/bar and take some snaps there. I've often thought that would be more productive than the lamentable photos I've produced up until now.

That sounds like a plan that John "Hannibal" Smith would have been proud of.

Ankle is now all on the mend, with replacement prosthesis and lots of bone grafts, after some superb Swiss surgery. However as it is last chance saloon with the ankle, I don't want to do anything that might inflame it.

PS Does the 28-85 zoom which I use most of the time on the M240 count as one lens? :D

Yes. One lens means one focal length. Otherwise, I would be able to change my chosen lens at will.

You declare what focal length you will use at the beginning and you leave it set thus for all 36 frames.

Several of the winning shots in the previous Challenges have been taken within yards of the cafe, or even in it.

My knee has been acting up a bit: I may well choose that option, or very close to it:(

@Andy: are there any limitations concerning the area where pics have to be taken?

e.g. within Wetzlar or within 5km or so.

I was thinking of the new Leica factory under construction that is just outside of Wetzlar, that might be an interesting location for some of us:D

I can offer you transport as I will come with my car (and I speak French as well)

John

Thanks for the offer, John, but I booked plane & car a long time ago. Looking forward to see you all again and meet the newcomers.

You can get on a plane to Rome or Timbuktu if you wish, provided you can take the shots within 2 hours :)

That's not quite in the "spirit" of the Challenge, though

  • 2 weeks later...

Does anyone have the actual details (meeting time, location, etc) for the factory tour on Friday? I apologise in advance if this information has been posted and I have missed it.

I am going to practice next week. I am participating in the Swiss Lakes Classic Car rally and I felt it would be appropriate to use a classic camera. I am therefore going to take only my M4 and Zeiss 50 ZM Planar lens. Since we are going to be quite high up at times over remote mountain passes, I felt a UV filter was a good idea. I must have had just about every filter size going either UV or UV/IR, except 43mm, so I have had to order one.

You can split into the two groups when you meet on the Friday morning.

I would recommend arriving for 10 at the latest - you can always drool in the shop...

For those of you with cars, and interested in the site of the new Leitz Park, where the factory will be moving to, it can be found here. THIS ISN'T WHERE THE TOUR WILL BE...

Finally, a link to the post with the Challenge Instructions itself is here
