Bateleur Posted October 19, 2012 Share #21 Posted October 19, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not only does it look good it works perfectly too, as your photographs were taken at varying shutter speeds by the looks of it? Sirphobos Posted October 20, 2012 Share #23 Posted October 20, 2012 I have recently discovered a 1954 IIIf serial 720688 which my grandfather bought in Germany circa 1955 everything is in original like new leather bag he has been dead for almost 50 years and it has not been used since. The question is where do I even go to get it serviced?
gyoung Posted October 20, 2012 Share #24 Posted October 20, 2012 My 111 was the same, I gave it to Malcolm Taylor who did a good job at reasonable price Gerry

Nick De Marco Posted October 21, 2012 Author Share #26 Posted October 21, 2012 Thanks for all the comments I'm keen to see Robert's beautiful camera picked up at the same time (which may need a quick cla) and to re-unite them on our next London meet. Here are a couple more photos taken with the 2nd roll I put through the iiif (Kodak 3200 @ 1600 - which worked so well I wish they weren't discontinuing it) Awaiting development of my first colour film put through the camera but have mouthballed it again now until the next lazy Sunday or Leica meet when I shall take it out again.. whole set here - Leica IIIf - a set on Flickr Welcome, dear visitor! thrid Posted October 25, 2012 Share #30 Posted October 25, 2012 Very nice IIIf. A few years ago I came across a IIIc with Elmar 3.5/50 at a garage sale in a similar condition. The story was that it was obtained just after the war by a GI stationed in Germany and never really used. It ended up sitting in a drawer for a few decades, until I got my hands on it. No case, but the camera looked new. Unfortunately the vulcanite simply disintegrated and crumbled off the body within a few weeks. I suspect that it was stored in a very hot attic. The lubricants were also totally shot as the camera was bone dry.

Nick De Marco Posted October 26, 2012 Author Share #32 Posted October 26, 2012 Wow Andy that looks great I have been looking for one since you mentioned it. Hard to find. But I hapenned to be buying something in Aperture London the other day (more later) and they found in their back room the precursor to that, a smaller nickel type ring without aperture markings but which nevertheless acts as lens hood and operates aperture. Its name is VOOLA and you need a FISON hood to use it Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! jc_braconi Posted October 26, 2012 Share #34 Posted October 26, 2012 Here is the VALOO on my 35mm Elmar, it works fine on this lens too... great little item. Andy, do you know that the VALOO is not born as a hood but for use on the enlarger VALOY using the 3.5/50 Elmar as an enlarger lens and this accessory allows the reading of the lens aperture byside. andym911 Posted October 26, 2012 Share #35 Posted October 26, 2012 JC So clearly my ignorance...I thought that the hood with the aperture control was called VALOO Apologies to all for confusion.... whatever its called its great;) andy
jc_braconi Posted October 26, 2012 Share #36 Posted October 26, 2012 Andy, The item you are using is anyway a VALOO... You do not have any vigneting with the 35 ?
andym911 Posted October 27, 2012 Share #37 Posted October 27, 2012 Andy, The item you are using is anyway a VALOO... You do not have any vigneting with the 35 ? no none at all...was also surprised as the shade is quite 'deep' normally use the 35mm elmar at around f6-10, rarely wider, on film cameras maybe that helps? On the M8 I guess the crop factor also helps andy
