A new addition to my collection, this is the crown jewel. A ‘brand new’, that is previously unused and mint condition 1955 Leica IIIf red dial, with self-timer and 50mm Elmar f3.5 (red scale) picked up in Copenhagen during s shopping expedition following the Leica One Challenge 2012.

The camera and lens shine like new, there is not a mark on them. The rangefinder is perfectly clear, and the lens glass is perfect. The camera appears, so far, to be in perfect working order. It appears to have come from a collector who bought it, then stored it, with fresh case, without ever using it. The original leather case itself looks like one made this year.

Although I love to collect cameras as beautiful objects, it makes no sense to me if they cannot work and I don’t use them. The intention is to use this camera, albeit very carefully and sparingly so I can hopefully keep it in its pristine condition for as long as I have it. I have put a couple of films through it already and I can't wait to see the results.

I have now taken off the mint Elmar lens and stored it separately, as well as the original case, and replaced them with a nice condition Leitz Summicron 50 from 1956 and a battered old case courtesy of Red Dot Camera.

I'm very happy with this lovely new addition to my collection, which is without doubt the best condition camera in it, incredibly so considering it is nearly 60 years old.

You are right James - and from loking at results from the Elmar wide open it is surprisingly good too. It's only tht i am kind of building a second set of everything for using, whether in combination or otherwise, to keep the mint IIIf and lens as mint as possible - but I shall still use the IIIf with the elmar sometimes - and certainly have it wear it if it is just on display

Just over £1k, for body with case and lens, both pristine, sold separetely but slightly discounted to buy together. With exchange rate a little more over 1k than I thought. But so long as I keep them looking nice I think it's worth it (I have prevviously spent more on lenses I rarely use) and if I had to sell again can't imagine I would lose much.

Fantastic camera and in fantastic condition, well worth a grand IMO.

There was someone on here about a year ago who bought a new old stock M3 from someone in Austria, I think.

That camera was amazing too and obviously brand new.

Believe you can find M3s easily enough but I've no idea how much the guy paid for it, think he was a Spanish wedding photographer if memory serves..

Enjoy your camera.

Thanks

Tony

Here some of shots from the first film I put throught the IIIf, and by the looks of it possibly the first film to ever go through it. Taken in Copenhagen (but 2 days after the One Challenge which was before I bought the camera so hope it's OK to post them) with the 50 Elmar f3.5 and Tri-X film
