stickan1 Posted October 6, 2012 Share #1 Posted October 6, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do the church add to the composition? I think it gives a feeling for the surroundings.
Advertisement Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Hi stickan1, Take a look here Autumn leaves. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael Hiles Posted October 6, 2012 Share #2 Posted October 6, 2012 The church is crucial to this picture - without it the picture would be quite bland. I would also close down a bit to make the church a little sharper. It is small enough not to overwhelm the picture if it were to be sharper. Either way, a very attractive picture. stickan1 Posted October 6, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted October 6, 2012 Thanks, I agree, the church gives a special atmosphere to the image. I had the focus at 0,5 meter (ZM Biogon 21/2,8 mm) and I think it was f8 or so. But it is an amazing DOF anyway.

Stig, I agree with Michael on all comments. A fine picture with a great idea. Paul
stickan1 Posted October 6, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted October 6, 2012 I went back to the place, no big deal as it was taken from our garden 50 meters from the main building and took three different exposures with different focus and then blended them using Helicon focus. I used a ZM 25/2,8 this time.
pauledell Posted October 7, 2012 Share #6 Posted October 7, 2012 Stig, I prefer the second version more. Even though the colors of the first are more real, I like the colors of the second. Paul
stickan1 Posted October 7, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted October 7, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Paul, I later made a B/W version, which I think is the winner!
stuny Posted October 7, 2012 Share #8 Posted October 7, 2012 Beautiful shots and the church definitely helps the first.
Iduna Posted October 7, 2012 Share #9 Posted October 7, 2012 Stig, a good idea for an atmospheric picture and composition. It is hard to tell which one is better because the essence is different. In the first version I like the emphasis on the fallen leaves. By the slightly blurred churched one is drawn into the picture and it is unfolding its meaning. In the second version I find emphasis more on the atmoshere caused by the colours. Here the leaves are a supporting background for another story. Thank you for sharing this discussion, very interesting.
moosehead Posted October 7, 2012 Share #10 Posted October 7, 2012 Hi Stig, love the B&W version am I the only one that thinks the old hay mowing machine gives the picture an antique look? Cheers, Gerry

I took the first one in the early afternoon and wanted to capture the colours and patterns of the fallen leaves. Then someone asked for more focus on the church and I liken the idea and took 3 images at different focus distances and stacked them so every thing was sharp. So you are right! It is two rather different images taken from more or less the same place.
Iduna Posted October 8, 2012 Share #13 Posted October 8, 2012 Stig, many thanks for your explanation. It is amazing what can be achieved with stacking. Good work. This can be seen in the B&W version.
pauledell Posted October 8, 2012 Share #14 Posted October 8, 2012 Stig, I really like the b&w version the most but as what has been said before, each version has its own intent and quality. It is up to you , the photographer to decide which one you intend to use. Paul
