Jerren Posted October 5, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted October 5, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Â Â I normally shoot from the hip, or quickly compose and snap the photo when shooting on the street. One day, I saw a video where a guy explained his approach to getting his "street portraits." Basically he'd get close to someone, frame them, and wait for them to look at him. I went out immediately and tried this out. Let me tell you, that guy has nerves of steel. LOL. But he was using an 85mm lens! I'm not sure if I'll be incorporating this into my style, although I must say, it is a very nice method to get a candid portrait. If I asked this guy for permission, he may have said no. Or if he did give me permission, he may have posed in a way where he would have looked stiff. So I totally see the benefit of using this approach. Here my go at it with my M8 and Carl Zeiss 2.8 Biogon.

pauledell Posted October 5, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted October 5, 2012 Jerren, Â An exceptionally nice picture with the expression and posture. I for one am reluctant to photograph people that close because of my personality, and my fear that I might offend the subject. I live within 5 miles of Amish in rural, and they do not want to be photographed, so I respect them for that. On the other hand Ben (Roguewave) has a magical ability to picture people close-up and personal with them completely at ease.

I have 3 leashes and 1 collar all Amish Made. Some of the best quality leather items I've ever seen? Do you think they'd make a couple of neckstraps to hold a pair of Leicas? lol

A couple of years ago, we in our church group (Independent non-denominational) had some great fellowship with an Amish family on their farm. I have the deepest respect for their sect. I was photographing a landscape when one of their buggies came along and the Amish teenager that was driving politely asked that I not photograph them. I told them that I respected their wishes and would not. Â Paul
