J_Thompson Posted September 29, 2012 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) At this point, the shuttle is flying over the Warner Brothers studio in Burbank, while the iconic Hollywood sign is about 1.6 miles from my position in Griffith Park. One of the NASA chase planes is right behind the 747's tail, partially hidden by the smaller antenna. V-Lux 2, 1/1600 @ 433 mm. Probably the smallest sensor in Leica's offerings (boo!) but one heck of a lens! Thanks for looking.

pauledell Posted September 29, 2012 Share #2 Posted September 29, 2012 A great shot but what could you expect. Pure Hollywood in all its splendor. Paul

dickgrafixstop Posted October 1, 2012 Share #6 Posted October 1, 2012 John, I waited nearly two hours in 95+ heat on a rooftop near Disneyland for a chance at a shot. Then the 747 flew nearly overhead and I only got a few sharpely angled views but nothing like this iconic shot of yours. Thanks for sharing. Noticed you used a V-Lux - I find it's a great little camera and a fills a real niche but seldom gets any mentions in this forum. Maybe it's the Eastern heritage, maybe just a distain for non Teutonic assembly, but keep up the great shots.

J_Thompson Posted October 2, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted October 2, 2012 Thanks, guys. Dick, I can appreciate your disappointment at not getting the shot you wanted, especially with your rooftop location which should have been ideal. I had two locations in mind - the Getty Center Museum and Griffith Park. I thought the Getty would offer a better background view with a wide panorama but, since this was a one-time opportunity, went with Griffith Observatory just to play it safe. I agree that the V-Lux 2 & 3 get almost no mention, but maybe it's due to the fact that it's just not a really serious camera, but using a M8 with a 90mm in this situation simply would not have gotten the same results. Mark, I can assure you that the "perfect timing," as you put it, was all due to the 5 fps burst mode! Sometimes modern technology does pay off.
