John Z. Goriup Posted March 7, 2014 Share #121 Posted March 7, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Of all the digital cameras I own……….my favorite: a Leica M9P - but it wouldn't be half as enjoyable and half the fun to hold and shoot, if it weren't for the extended "Thumbs-Up" device and the RRS ( Really Right Stuff ) grip / base plate. Much stronger and much more well made than the factory piece and unadulterated joy to use on a tripod with those wonderful RRS ball heads and Quick-Release clamps. The combination of those two aftermarket items and the small soft-release button ( all my local Leica Boutique had at the time was the gaudy red anodized example ) make this the most ergonomically perfect 35mm format camera I've ever used. IWC Doppel Posted May 4, 2014 Share #123 Posted May 4, 2014 New jacket, I have had this in the top draw since my M8, finally took a few 'brave pils' and gave it a go Welcome, dear visitor! sblutter Posted May 7, 2014 Share #124 Posted May 7, 2014 Just got mine back from NJ - wanted the sapphire glass. I like my aging top plate. Got the new skin and dial as expected - AND - they gave me a new sensor for free! Well worth it - and the LCD is a little clearer. Wish they would do the M-E also but they said no. Just love these cameras - but remain curious what the next M will have.
Archiver Posted May 8, 2014 Share #125 Posted May 8, 2014 Once again, I'm giving thought to a M9P upgrade to my black M9. A new black top plate would be very handsome and in keeping with the original, whereas a silver top plate would make it very distinctive albeit a little more eye catching. If I was to get a silver top plate, I wonder if they could do the body in an a la carte leather. Has anyone done this?

If I was to get a silver top plate, I wonder if they could do the body in an a la carte leather. Has anyone done this? They can, yes. Talk to your Leica dealer. Leica recommend structured leather on the M9 body (i.e. the Ostrich style, which is what I ended up getting) because the screw holes that the leather would go over would eventually show up when the leather sinks into them. I don't feel the need for thumb pieces and so on. Back in 1959 I spent all my beer money for months on a IIIg which I still use a fair bit nowadays, partly for sentimental reasons, partly because I enjoy processing monochrome film and partly because I like the results. In those days of winding on knobs, before levers came in, there was nothing to lean the thumb against. It didn't matter to me then, it doesn't matter now. Things like that are partly personal preference and partly what you got used to so long ago that you never think about it now. It's the lenses that matter and, using anything at or shorter than 135mm, optical rangefinders are pretty handy.
sblutter Posted July 10, 2014 Share #129 Posted July 10, 2014 Why did you get a new sensor? Was it broken? To me the sensor was fine. I assume they saw something (the batch number?) and performed a preventative measure. The new one sensor's output is indistinguishable from the old to my eyes. Im pretty sure he uses it Leica «Hall of Fame Award» ging an Steve McCurry | fotointern.ch - Fotografie Nachrichten Cool! Well he was inducted into the leica hall of fame for his outstanding work (and was presented the engraved leica) but Steve mccurry is and always has been a Nikon user. All of his famous photos are made with Nikons. He doesn't use leicas. He openly talks about his gear in many, many interviews. I only know this because I am a mega Steve mccurry fan. But all in all, it doesn't matter what camera he uses because his photographs are outstanding!

k_g_wolf ✝ Posted January 1, 2015 Share #139 Posted January 1, 2015 Madame Lash Is there anybody to blame in case this string fails on you, Paul?? I don´t think I would trust this set up, to my eyes it is far from perfection for the heavy gear involved. In case it was mine I would look for a proper neck strap ... >>Madame Lash<< is good for the weight of the X2 I would think, not for too much more. jim sink Posted January 10, 2015 Share #140 Posted January 10, 2015 I used Leica M3's in the military in 1969. Finished school in 1973, used Nikons for 28 years then Canon now for last 15 years. No other cameras ever felt like a Leica. Over the years with Nikon and Canon Ive had various Leicas from point and shoots to M9. Then this past year I bought a M9P Black from Leica Miami and finally found what I've missed all these years. The M9P for me is the best fit. I feel like it was made for me. Probably use it for the rest of my life.
