It might be a good idea to post your question in the German section.

Diese Frage sollte besser im deutschen Forumsteil gestellt werden. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, daß deutschsprachige Antworten kommen, ist deutlich höher.

I'd sent it t Solms, as you are in Germany. They will give it the full treatment. Which version do you own?

My understanding is that Solms is very touchy indeed about having any fungus infected lens anywhere near their premises. At least contact them first!

Hello.

Can you give me tips on disassembling my Leica R 50mm 1:2? I discovered fungus.

Is there some useful guidance?

Or would you advise against it completely ... ?

Thank you Julius

Intensive UV light & Thyme are good non invasive method of dealing with fungus.

Thyme? You mean that spice? What should i do with it?

And UV light. Is normal sun (it´s winter) ok?

Correct, thyme is a spice. Active ingredient thymol is antiseptic, it will inhibit or kill fungal spores if kept in same confined space as your equipment.

Google search provides multiple references, here is one..

...

It looks like the fungus has spread in the last days.

...

I've never had fungus on any of my lenses, but it was my impression that fungus in a lens grows oner months or years, not hours or days. If it's visibly growing by the day, as you say, I doubt that it is fungus.

  • 1 month later...

There is another method to kill the fungus, if it is not very great:

Put the lens into an oven, than heat the oven for round about one hour to 80° Celsius (not more!) and let it cool down. The fungus will be killed and can not grow further, but the dead fungus is still there. You will not see him at the picture.

I did this with a Telyt 350, but everyone will do this on his own risk.
