Guys n Gals,

I am selling my 35 Summilux ASPH. and plan on looking into a 50mm Noctilux F1.0. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I want to do all the homework I can to know what to look for, which variant presents the best value and any differences.

I have read all I can (Wiki, I have the full Putts Compendium, plus Thorston review, Huff etc) plus taken a few shots with one and seen two in the flesh.

My initial thoughts are to get a V2 or V3. seems the V4 is more expensive an comments from those that have had the later model with retractable hood prefer the clip on hood. Plus the early ones will be cheaper.

If all goes well then I will hopefully be 'in the market' before Xmas :)

Keep your 35mm asph, take a little longer to save up and buy a Noctilux to complement it. If you find you prefer it to your 35, sell both and buy a 0.95.

You know you won't be happy until you have one......

:D

Honcho, hi

I am keeping my 11873 35mm Aspherical and selling my 11874 ASPH. To my eyes the early Aspherical is similar but I prefer it's rendering, depth and central sharpness over the later lens. I take your point though !

I have a Summaron 35, plus the Aspherical. I also have a 50 Elmar-M (Which I love) and a 50 Simmlux Version II (Which I also love), I was thinking about rtying a Noctilux and then possibly selling the Summilux. To keep two lenses at my favourite lengths 35 and 50

Best advice I could give is try a Noctilux f1 if you can. There's more than enough hot air wasted on the subject. Every M owner should at least try it so buy one if you are certain your work needs it. If you have the budget eventually, a 0.95 is a no-brainer.........cash is irrelevant, of course. ;)

I know IWC's heart is sold on the f1 for it's rendering and all I can say is I can't wait to see your pictures from it.

:)

One idea - can you swap or part swap your 35 ASPH for a Noctilux at somewhere like RG Lewis, Red Dot etc? You may even be able to try out a couple different versions and they seem to get them in on and off quite frequently.

I don't think, even with cash allowing, that the 0.95/50 Noctilux is necessarily a no-brainer.

I have a 1.4/50 Summilux ASPH FLE and 1.0/50 Noctilux E60 - both can be had for the price of a 0.95. I love how this old 1.0 Noctilux renders, only sometimes shoot at 1.0 as the DOF is often too narrow for my liking, and I have no intention of buying the .95. They are very different lenses.
