robertwright Posted March 16, 2007 Share #101  Posted March 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) At this point it might also be a good idea to just get a refund from your european dealer (not so great for the dealer who from what you said has been pretty stand-up about this, but hey-) and since the M8 is no longer in short supply over here get one locally, this might at least save the roundtrip time. otoh, the fact that you have been able to get three is it?- repairs/replacements in this short amount of time does speak to some kind of efficiency with the euro dealer who must have a brother working in Solms it seems, most people stateside who are waiting on repairs are waiting a lot longer.  QUOTE]  I've just arranged with my dealer to send it back. I'll then start from scratch with my USA dealer.  The reason my repairs didn't take as long as they might otherwise have is that I've been sending the cameras back directly to my contact person in Solms via FedEx overnight (at my own expense), and having them send it back to me the same way.  wow, let me see, 6 trips across the pond fedex overnight for 10lbs to germany...a mastercard commercial none of us want to live...that would be several hundred dollars? Being Leica's personal test-bench-Priceless...  I'd say a 30% letter would look really warm and fuzzy right now. But that is me....

Ben Marks Posted March 16, 2007 Share #102 Â Posted March 16, 2007 When mine failed outright after 24 hours the camera got very warm, the battery was obviously discharging in an uncontrolled manner (I believe). I was sitting with a fellow LUGger/LUFfer in Burlington VT and this had happened to his the night before (camera warm to the touch - battery discharge). The camera was functioning marginally when I held it, but stopped responding after two test pictures. He had two batteries, but swapping them did not help. Â Hmm. robertwright Posted March 16, 2007 Share #103 Â Posted March 16, 2007 -mine never did return to correct functioning. I exchanged it the next day.

fotografr Posted March 16, 2007 Author Share #105 Â Posted March 16, 2007 Some test results: Â Today I went to see my local dealer where he had a new, black M8. I had asked him in advance to charge the battery for it. Here are the results of our exchanges: Â --His new camera works fine with my battery and my memory card. It also works fine with the battery that came with it. Â --My camera still did not work with his new battery. Â --I formatted my card in his new camera, put it in mine, and it still did not work. Â I'm beginning to think I just got three consecutive bad cameras. Maybe I have one of those black clouds hanging over my head. Â I'm going to take the advice offered by several people here. I will return the camera for a refund and buy a new one here. I will also replace everything in the chain--SD cards and card reader. I will then evaluate whether I need a new computer, a new house, a new car and a new city. I am not contemplating a new wife, as this one is working out quite well.
