jaapv Posted March 15, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've hung a small exhibition of M8 60x40 prints in my practice. I've done this with film enlargements and Canon 10D prints, but the number of positive reactions I get are far more numerous than I got in the past. It is clear there is "something" that catches the eye here.

larry Posted March 15, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 15, 2007 Jaap, Â Not to take credit from the M8, but could it be that you're simply becoming a better photographer? Â Larry
jaapv Posted March 15, 2007 Author Share #4 Â Posted March 15, 2007 I hope so Larry and Stuart, thank you, and whilst it certainly is true that the M8 is inspiring, I think a lot has to do with the amazing quality of these large prints. The M8 files hold up so well.
marknorton Posted March 15, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 15, 2007 Jaap, you didn't think of including some pictures of root canal work taken with the macro Elmar blown up to 60*40 to help your patients to relax?
jaapv Posted March 15, 2007 Author Share #6 Â Posted March 15, 2007 Won't work, Mark, I use a Canon 10D for that. The files get soft on upsizing..:D
carcam Posted March 15, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted March 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jaap, you didn't think of including some pictures of root canal work taken with the macro Elmar blown up to 60*40 to help your patients to relax? Â Will the macro Elmar work for intra-oral photography? Never thought of it but if so, I may be able to rationalize another lens purchase. My wife would never know and I also would be able to "blow up some root canals" (what a practice builder that would be!)
jaapv Posted March 15, 2007 Author Share #8 Â Posted March 15, 2007 For root canals I guess you would need a VisoflexIII, Novoflex bellows, a Photar lens and some kind of adapted ringflash or even better coldlight. I fear that is getting too complicated for me. I use a Canon 10D, Tamron 90 macro and Sigma 140 ringflash for general mouth photography and the full-auto everything suits me fine, And using my own work as decoration and offering the exhibited photo's for sale (Haven't sold even one yet and don't really expect to:D)justifies the M8 to my tax inspector, if not to my wife... larry Posted March 15, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted March 15, 2007 I see the seeds of a new sub-forum developing here: The Leica Clinical Photographers' Forum. My first job out of college was as a medical/dental photographer -- maybe I should volunteer my services as the forum moderator. :-) Â Larry

I'm using a 20D with 100mm macro and Canon ringlight. Also all auto which makes it easy for my assistants to take the picture while I'm working. I could never sell any pictures in my practice for 2 reasons: 1- Nobody in their right mind (maybe under nitrous oxide) would pay for them and 2- they don't have any money left after my root canals. dannirr Posted March 15, 2007 Share #11  Posted March 15, 2007 The M8 has become the perfect ciamera in my practice - the DSLR's were always too noticible.  Danni
jaapv Posted March 15, 2007 Author Share #12 Â Posted March 15, 2007 How do you use it then, Danni? It would suit an orthodontist fine for portraits and such; for the closeups it gets a mite unpractical.
dannirr Posted March 15, 2007 Share #13  Posted March 15, 2007 Jaap,  I am a neonatologist - I secure permission from the parents of my patients to take ohotographs of the kids and/or them, and then over the several weeks or months that they are in our ICU I take pictures. They are generally what you might call "environmental portraits". So, the M8 is not genreally noticed and has been great.  If I do want to do close-up stuff, I resort to a DSLR. - like the one below under intense phototherapy (sorry about quality - I' at work and its the only version I have here) Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted March 15, 2007 Author Share #15 Â Posted March 15, 2007 The technical quality may not be what you wish - but that photograph has a strong esthetic appeal.

jaapv Posted March 15, 2007 Author Share #18 Â Posted March 15, 2007 Thanks Russ greatly appreciated:) But this thread was really not meant as an invitation to a mutual admiration society:o It was meant as a song of praise to the print quality of the M8 files, which, obviously, cannot be displayed on the Web... carcam Posted March 15, 2007 Share #19 Â Posted March 15, 2007 Aha, the famed Leica "doctors and dentists" really do exist! This reminds me, I need a checkup. Â Are we the ones buying up all the M8's only to get frustrated and sell them back for a Rebel...? Not me. I love this little camera.
Iron Flatline Posted March 15, 2007 Share #20 Â Posted March 15, 2007 Man, root canal is one thing, but my proctologist has started hanging 60x40s of his in-office work.... Â :-)
