Last night, when taking photos of the moon, I noticed that I could focus the APO-Telyt-R 280/4 with the NEX-5N, then switch that camera with the NEX-7 and the lens was still correctly focused.

So in anticipation of the Leica M with focus peaking and magnification, why not try the same with the NEX-5N and the M9 and throw in a couple APO-Extender-R. Here goes:

NEX-5N + E-R adapter + APO-EXTENDER-R( 2+1.4 )x + APO-TELYT-R 1:4/280, focus with focus peaking / magnification:

Keep focus as is, just swap camera and adapter, M9 + M-R adapter + APO-EXTENDER-R( 2+1.4 )x + APO-TELYT-R 1:4/280

Obviously, the NEX-5N has an APS-C sensor whereas the M9 has a FF one, therefore the different angles of view.

I think this is very encouraging, considering that I have only very cheap adapters with just a little too much play.

So, the M9 image is just slightly out of focus.

That superfluous play never seemed to matter before, but, I finally have a reason to buy the best, more expensive adapters that fit precisely.

Looks like Neil Armstrong made himself quite at home in the short time he spent there.

Pete

I bet he gets junk mail up there too.

Fascinating little project Pete. I could try that with 'da boids'. What's that bird in New Zealand that evades its enemies by staying vewy vewy still?

So, I got NOVOFLEX adapters that fit precisely and it was a piece of cake to first focus with the Sony NEX-7,

then swap camera and adapter with the Leica M9 and another adapter. Here is an example shot:

Focusing in this way seems to work exceedingly well.

Of course, it's inconvenient if one is pressed for time.

However, this is the first time I have been able to really use a Leica camera with a Leica R-lens.

Provided the new Leica M exceeds the M9 in every performance metric, including excellence of colors, I am looking forward to use the M with all my lenses of various makes.
